D8 immobiliser keypad
Hi all.
I own a 96 D8 and am paranoid of getting stuck somewhere if my keypad ever became faulty. Does anyone have any ideas as to what spares I could get to tackle this problem if it ever happened? I was just going to get a 2nd hand keypad but after reading up, it seems that the code is stored both in the keypad and the ecu so this wont work. Maybe could just get a wiring loom?
As I already have a faulty key plip (and have had problems with them in the past) I dont want to have to rely on my key, so would rather use the keypad (and its more secure).
Has anyone got any ideas?
Thanks
Ben

It would make sense if the immobiliser activation/deactivation is dealt with solely by the keypad electronics.
However disconnecting it will of course deactivate the immobiliser - which I'm pretty sure you'd be obliged to tell your insurance company. Also if the ECU is reset or the battery is disconnected/drained it's likely that the immobiliser will be active again, with no way of deactivating it until the keypad is reconnected thus causing the situation you're trying to avoid.
I'd recommend leaving it be. If you're worried about the keypad buttons wearing out I'd suggest changing your code every few months to ensure an even spread of wear over the buttons.

I suffer with the breakages of wires as you have said, and I keep a small flat blade and a mini test lamp in the car, ev er few months I have t remove the plug and reconect the wires.
You could relocate it to where the ash tray is if you want to resolve permenently but then its in clear view for all to see.

Owing to the wires breaking on my keypad (5 of them broke I think) I managed to get the car started and then yanked the master plug out of the keypad
I have told the insurance company, who noted it on my insurance but didn;t change the price
I would like to reconnect the wires up, but I have what I think are two broken pink ones and I'm not sure which way round they go - peugeot want £15 (whichI can stomach) for the connector that goes into the keypad, £20 for a new loom and £180 to fit it all
NIZ - any change of a nice wiring diagram with some help re the pink wires? I'm colour blind and would hate to put them in the wrong way round and break something!

Sorry Michael, Last night when I got home and rebuilt my PC I was still no better off.. as it turns out vista doesn't want to connect to the Internet through my wireless router, even though its hard wired, so couldn't send the information required, hoping to resolve it tonight and will get back to you as soon as possible!
Sorry Chap!

What is broken with your key? It's not something simple like a dead pair of batteries is it? Does the LED on it light up when you press a button? what about if you take the top off? My original key had broken rubber around the button which prevented it working, so I got a replacement from eBay and transplanted the top casingmichaeljclark wrote:yes it is a std feature - however since the wires on my keypad are broke and soo to is my remote it don't help too much!!!!!!
In fact the unlock on remote has never worked for me (even before the remote broke)
