Spanner/ratchet set?

Post by Captain Jack »

Hello,

Can someone recommend me a decent 12 piece set of spanners and preferably ratchet spanners? I know that Snap-on is the bee's knees but what are the other respectable brands? There are some 12 piece sets for a tenner, which doesn't strike me as sturdy and a crappy Halfords set I have is missing some sizes, so looking for something nice.

I don't want it costing the earth - maybe up to £50?

Cheers my dears

Very much so!
Rumoured to be made by snap on.

If you can get hold of a trade card then it is very cheap too!

If you have a load of previous reciepts from say euro car parts from cars you own, you can say to the store manager i do lots of my own servicing and they will give you a trade card.

The halfords ones I have an never had an issue with - normally about £40 when on half prie offer which is quite regularly!

What ones did you have Captain Jack?

Think I might pop to Halfords today!
Just to add CJ the Halfrauds ratchet spanners are really good bits of kit.

About a month ago, I was wondering which ratchet spanners to buy. My existing combination spanners were mostly pretty well clapped out, loaned, lost....

I read this revew, the Silverline set looked great value..

http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/accessorie ... ers-tested

till I remembered that the only decent spanners in my existing non-ratchet set were the Halfords Professional ones. I did some googling around, and noticed several posts here and there that said.. every so often Halfords did some really good Special Offers on their tools.

I checked at the Halfords site, and their 12 piece Advacnced Professional Ratchet spanners were on offer at £39.95 reduced from £79.95. I bought them, they're great.
The current price on their site is now £59.95, reduced from the £79.95.

I understand that Mac Tools are the people who actually make the Halfords Pro tools.

The cheaper range of tools at Halfords, I wouldn't bother with.

Santa brought me a MAC SRWMO612K 12-piece reversible set and they're absolutely brilliant. 8 - 19 mm

2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)

This set that Paul mentioned earlier is very similar to mine, as I said they're excellent tools. And at an "easter special" price of £79.99 reduced from £199.99 it's a bargain! Only 3 ratchet spanners in there now though, I'm sure mine from a few years ago has more...
