Since you've already owned a 2.2 petrol, a 2.0 is going to be disappointingly slow and only marginally more economical.

If you can find a good 1.9TD at a sensible price it will run well on veg, but you can't get a posh estate - top spec is GLX and they're not quick.

A late 2000-on 110 HDi exec will get you all the toys including cruise control and while it won't win a race with your old bus, it'll be torquey enough to feel fairly lively.

A std 2.2 HDi is very smooth and deceptively quick, a remapped one is something you have to experience to fully appreciate, but it's a very different animal and can hold its own with most of today's quick diesels, yet still returns 45-ish mpg

A well serviced one is fairly nippy,

Diesel is better though, if you do a lot of motorway miles
I'd prefare petrols over diesels for winter running tho.

Here here............ My 205's were 1.8 turbo diesels and because it was a light enough car it went well....... and as much as this estate will be a lot heavier it's a 2.0 petrol and can't half shift itself.... it's all about the maintenance though, very true!

I,m biased but I have to agree with Lozz the 2.0 petrol is nippy even my estate ,I normally drive light footed but the fist time I had to boot it to avoid a collision I nearly sh*t myself

Diesels do take forever to warm up but my HDi had a suplementary heater (As does my Mondeo actually) and you could have warm air out the vents in 2-3 minutes of starting the car!

It's not just me who does wheel spins in the estate then

When I first got it, it was my first petrol car and I only had 2 diesels previous to that. Everyone was like ''remember you got to give it some welly so you don't stall it'' I not once stalled it, but I did do a few wheel spins and quick 'get a ways' that made people think girl racer

I thought my old 2 litre 406 was rather nippy too! It seemed to love being revved hard in 2nd and 3rd! I did find it a bit heavy on fuel though, my old V6 vectra would do almost 29mpg on the combined, not much less.
