hi recently the snow and winter lights started flashing and said "automatic transmission fault" so I plugged it into the diagnostic computer at college and it came up with low transmission fluid pressure, so i checked the level which was fine but the oil was black. I called up several gearbox specialists and they said it will cost around £600-£700 for new solenoids and bushes to be replaced. is it worth getting the gearbox done by a specialist or buying the solenoids and fitting them my self? i have access to a fully equipped workshop as im studding mechanics at college.
P.S the engine isnt in limp mode and the changes are getting worse as the days go on.

Repairing auto boxes is a pita,
A lot of research will be needed if your going this route,
Try changing the oil, if you do make sure you get. The correct stuff
Also it may have to be filled at a specific temperature
Not sure on pugs if that's the case on pugs mind as I've only worked on vw boxes

Sadly there is not a lot of info on the forum
Regarding auto.s
Changing the oil is just a gamble,
Haynes might be your friend on this,
