Last week I got just 38mpg out of it but I was still getting used to it and done a few short journeys.

Came back from Dai's yesterday, reset the computer and set cruise at 60mph down the A470 and down the M4.
Computer not says 61.4mpg

So you've noticed how many more mpg you can get going from Merthyr down the A470 compaired to the trip back up? i bet you were doing late 40's early 50's mpg on the way up were you?

It's now showing 110,000miles 6 months on

So far...

I had the cambelt and fuel pump belt replaced - £620 But it's good for another 125k/10 years.
I blanked the EGR but removed it due to warming up issues.
Had the mechanic do a major service on it. Had a chat and we both agree that 12k between services is fine but additional 6k/6month oil changes would be a good idea too.

This morning I fitted Automatic Powerfold mirrors. My mirrors were folding but only if you pressed the button to do so. By fitting the newer module out of a later Mondeo it allows the mirrors to fold when the car is locked and opened.

Parking sensors!

This is how I'm planning to wire them up...

Reason being is that I want to fit a towbar in the future, it will be handy to switch off the parking sensors when not in use.

Head unit upgrade...
Now I'm abit confused what to do. The screen in between my dials shows track names, phone book, radio stations etc etc etc.
If I fit an aftermarket radio I loose all the features on the dials apart from the basic car setting and messages. I also loose the voice control in my car.
Options?
Option 1) Sony DAB 6CD head unit from another Mondeo. They look identical to the one that's already fitted to my car except it's DAB. It will mean I keep the screen in between the dials and my voice control (Which I never use, but it's a good party piece!). I can then fit an upgraded bluetooth module which would give me a USB port aswell! This would cost about £400.
Option 2) Ford Sat Nav. This would mean I would have to replace all my centre console. There is one on ebay right now for £410. I would also need to go to ford and have the sat nav programmed in costing an additional £100. Then to replace the bluetooth module with a USB compatible one would cost another £200. This is an expensive option but worth the money!
Option 3) Go completely aftermarket. Could also fit a rear reversing camera and rear seat screens. Would have full iPhone integration, 3 sets of pre outs for amping the system up and would be the best value for money coming in at around £400. Problem is i would loose the integration with my dials. Is that such a big deal?

Brakes...
Got them on order. Rear brakes have done 110k and are shot! Front brake discs have done 110k and the pads have done about 20k.
Ordered pagid discs and pads all round. Planning to do them next weekend and paint the calipers.

Tow bar...
Want a Westfalia fully detachable tow bar. They are selling for around £160.
I want to fit OEM electrics so I don't have to cut and splice the loom. The kit comes in at £170 which includes the GEM and cable. It's then another £100 at the dealer to have it switched on

Using this as a bit of a project thread. Nothing major will be done to it, just trying to add features and generally keep it more up to date.
I have a few scratches. Well 3. Two are about 2 inches long (You can see one in the first picture on the passengers wheel arch) that were on the car when I bought it. And there is another 12" scratch that someone has done along the bottom of the bonnet sometime in the last fortnight Will get a price soon off chips away to get them fixed.

All in all, really happy with the car and pretty glad I didn't go for a C5 after

Since I removed the EGR blanking plate my hesitation and shuddering was back.
When I'm freewheeling or using very little throttle the EGR is open. When you put for foot on the accelorator it closes. Mine was sticking so it would hesitate or shudder for a split second before it started to go.

Today before I went to work I did a loop around Bridgend gently to warm the engine up and then I sat on the motorway for 15 miles at 60mph in 3rd gear with cruise control on (Approx ~3600rpm) as per Talk Ford's recommendations.
The amount of crap that come out of the exhaust was unreal!

Got in the car after work and I can't believe the difference it's made! The throttle is ultra sharp, even more so than when I blanked my EGR and it's got a few more RPM's to play with lower down.
It's also definetley quieter and generally seems much easier to drive at slow speeds.

New brakes and a sexy new torque wrench!
Was hoping to do them tomorrow but the snow has put stop to that.
Went for Pagids. Took me a while to decide. Wanted Mintex but was worried that the ones on ebay were fakes and retailers wanted a fortune for them!
Decided a good OEM brand would be the next best thing. Delphi come in at £220 from motorfactors and the Pagids come in at £180 with my ECP Discount.
Ford wanted £400+!

Plan is to give the arches a good clean and dress the plastics. Give the calipers a good clean, grease up all the sliders and give them a lick of paint.

The rear discs and pads have done 110k! Although they are well past their best, I should have done them in the summer
The front discs have done 110k and the pads have done about 20k. Looking at the service history a set of front pads seems to last about 45k on my car.

Hopefully I won't have to touch the brakes for a long time!

I see what you're saying Stu, but in reality it's pretty unlikely to go wrong. Even in Sam's case it wasn't the panel itself that was at fault, just a dodgy sensor. It's a shame that the incompetent garage didn't realise that before they spent the money. Still at least it wasn't Sam's cash they were throwing away!

The instrument cluster was £750ish plus fitting and programming.

Even the standard instrument clusters (There is two, one with a big monochrome screen in the middle and one with a little monochrome screen in the middle) are £600 from the dealer.

I should have asked to keep the old instrument cluster and put it on eBay, I missed a trick there

But like Dai said. They don't fail. Mine was a misdiagnosis.

Taking it to Cornwall this weekend. Looking forward to giving it a good run!

Was hammering it up and down the A30.
Was sitting on the motorway at outside lane speeds.

The 406 was better on an Eco run but as soon as youy start pushing it abit the 6th gear in the Mondeo sure does make a difference!

Fitted my parking sensors today.
Ford kindly marked the positions for the sensors on the inside of the bumper. So just drilled a pilot hole from the inside out and then drilled a 21mm hole from the outside. I kind of wish I done a 20mm hole as they are not as tight as I would like.


Then found my reverse light feed and tapped into it. I stripped a little insulation back and soldered the feed to the parking sensors onto it before taping it up.


Cracked on with the wiring and then got the sensors in.



Then give the car a good clean!


And the scratch some scrote did a few months bacj. Still unsure weather or not to get this smart repaired (~£100) or get the front end resprayed (£400).

Only thing thats failed on the car is the coolant tempreture sensor.

Ohhh sorry! I misread. It's fuel pump belt... There's a separate belt to drive the fuel pump?
