Sorry to hear all this Supa, not exactly a good start eh?
Leave the Cambelt, it should be changed at 96,000 I know about the arduous use thing, but I would leave it till the summer (if it was me) the HDi's not that stressful on the cambelt really.
You MUST continue to give up smoking, it WILL WILL WILL be worth it but it will take 8 weeks or so to get it out of the system, try drinking plenty of water and eat fruit more.
Your roof? I would get advice from the insurers, you may get somewhere but I'm not sure.
Traditionally when it's new roof time it usually forms part of a re-mortgage etc. (unfortunately) but it will at least enhance the value of the house (and keep you dry).
Woe isss mee.......

Sometimes happens like that doesn't it, all piles up at once
I've never even thought of claiming for a roof on insurance until recently, always thought it was "wear and tear". Then a mate of mine made a successful claim for a leaky roof. It was mostly a success anyway, they paid for half of the repair, and all of the damage inside, carpets, decorating etc..., a bit of creative accounting and the whole job didn't cost him a penny
Don't let the bastards grind you down Supa!
