I have to agree with 406 hdi. The 407 will never be a 406 speaking from someone who has owned many pugs over the years 15 in total including gti's diesel turbos 406 coupe 3.0 V6 SE to my most practical 406 glx hdi 110 but chipped with 150 bhp the 405 what a car the most reliable pug i ever owned. Changed to a 406 so much better. Quality, ride comfort. performance and economy great car. Drove a 407 136 hdi not as quick as my 406. But very dissapointing drive The styling i love but thats it. Poor ride very hard poor interior space and electrical probs my mate just sold his 407 hdi 136 and banked 5k and got a 406 exec now he is getting that chipped i hate to say it i would not buy another pug again i will buy a german or jap car for reliability and resale value next Please peugeot stop trying to make peugeots in front with electrical crap get it tested before customers do it for you ie bmw vw.

Except the 'official' UK ones were all Bosch. Certainly on the 306 brethren, where the Bosch ECU'd models are in the minority, the Spunkie unit is less reliable and less tunable, and considerably less economical than the Bosch.
i would say the siemens 90 is more reliable as it has no lift pump and a more up-to-date management system

Despite the extra simplicity of the Spunkie units, the experience of 306 boys is that it's not in the same reliability league as a Bosch powered equivalent, not by a mile, a fact regularly bemoaned on the PSOOC "my 306 HDi is kacked again" forum.
The smaller, lighter 306, with the spunkie management struggles to get within 8 mpg of a Bosch equipped 406. The promise is there on paper, but in reality it's a poorly executed system, with the added disadvantage for the spanner monkeys that it can't be properly remapped either.
It's capable of running at sustained higher pressures than the Bosch system, which makes the lack of remap ability a real shame, as the Bosch kit requires a piggy back ECU to work properly beyond around 150 bhp (nitrous and methanol aside, that is).
I hate to say it my 406 will be last pug i will ever buy. As anyone seen the new 207? like most pugs now dont buy any pug with 07 on the end im starting to dislike peugeot my g/f has a 04 plate 206 xsi hdi 90. We were looking at trading it in for a 207 forget it build quality is crap compared to the 206. Was a simular story when i was going to trade in for a 407 poor ride not as much practical space and very confusing dash. If you have a 406 drive a 407 and will agree better looking than the 406 but what do you mainly see the inside and how it soaks up the bumps also cheaper tyres around £50 per corner for a 406 £130 per corner for a 407.
I too, sadly, think I will not be buying another Puggy
I would like a newer 406, like a late 53 or 04 reg but am put off somewhat by all these problems with Particulate filters/emmissions and that. Shame really.
Something tells me that the best 406's are the older ones

All official UK market 406 90 & 110 HDi's are Bosch. The Spunkie is a slightly older system (The 306 HDi predates the 406 HDi by nearly a year), that has also been used in the bulk of 307 HDi 90s, with legendary lack of reliability.
Many b1tch and moan about the reliabilty of some HDi variantsm, but we really have it pretty good. The PD system that VW introduced, whiclst good for power was an emissions and reliabilty nightmare. Toss in relatively short cambelt intervals, and a petrol like lack of economy if the performance is accessed to the full, then you realise what a surprisingly good piece of development the HDi (DW10TD & DW10ATED) really is, especiall when consideing it's advancing age of 8 years and counting.
Unless I get swayed by the option of a generous company car deal or something in which case I'll probably go 407 or Passat, I'll definitely be buying another 406 when mine dies. Likely another turbo as well, or maybe a V6 (although I love the turbo's relaxed attitude sooo much). I'll definitely be looking at a D8 though - the electrical system just seems to be so much more reliable and serviceable.
If my 406 manages to live until the age where getting a similar replacement is nigh impossible, I might consider a used 320D or Passat.
Having said that though, I'm quite looking forward to 607s devaluing to under 2 grand! They look sumptuous inside.
I agree about the 607s comfy looks and I WAS looking at buying one. But... have a look here for them. The amount of electrical problems they have is UNBELIEVABLE!!!!
The more I read about D9's electrical problems, the happier I am with having a D8, which, after all my abuse, is still untouchable... and I hope it stays that way...

To be fair, a lot of it sounds like dealers being useless and replacing stuff randomly instead of fixing it because they can make more money off the replacement by charging Peugeot under the warranty
Look at other cars on the site and you'll notice a pattern. People who've bought their cars new complain the most whereas the positive reviews generally come from people who've bought used. It makes sense - new cars are a ripoff and obviously with the thousands of components in cars, something's going to go wrong. It's pretty much guaranteed. Used buyers tend to get cars that have had most of the manufacturing problems sorted out by the original owner so their experience is going to be much better. Even if it still goes wrong, someone who paid £4000 for the car will be a lot less pissed off than someone who paid £25,000 for it
The 607's still a new car so I'd expect lots of complaints. Not many review sites were around 10 years ago when Internet access was still only for geeks like me ;) but if it were I bet the D8 406 would be slated just as badly as every other new car on there is now!
