I agree with you, I've never been one to "celebrate" a death, regardless of how much I despised the person.

Being a kid in Wales during her reign, I have some pretty dire memories of how the bitch tore the country apart. I was a lucky one, my dad was a teacher so our household kept earning, mortgage payments and bills were crippling and times were tight, but we were the lucky ones. So many of my friends had parents who worked in the mines or steelworks, or any of the countless other industries that were destroyed by their demise. It was a horrible time.

She was truly an evil, calculating bitch, she knew exactly what she was doing to the working classes and went right ahead and did it anyway. I don't think she deserves a state funeral and I certainly don't want any of my hard earned tax dollars paying for it.

The doughnut was lovely, even if it did contain apricot jam (if you think that's strange, they also make them with chocolate which is thoroughly vile).

I've been off enjoying the comments over on the BBC, very few people at all have anything good to say about her. She was the worst thing to happen to the UK since the Black Death and, just like the Black Death, the world is a better place without her.

My memories seem the opposite of others; apart from the Poll Tax thing I worked for a big Construction-related specialist company at the time and things were good :? they were doing loads of High Street/Retail work and the money was literally rolling in, it was almost the high life between 1987 and 1990. I was about 18 years old and the experience I think spoilt me a bit; going to work was a huge laugh  there was loads of fancy cars to borrow, there were parties and corporate events, EVERY Friday lunch was taken down the pub - I mean EVERY time :o they used to pay me extra to go to college, they paid my fuel to go to work :? it was brilliant. I once ended up driving a 6-month old BMW 325i for about 2 weeks because they'd 'forgotten about it' (no-one said to bring it back, I was just thrown the keys) I even met my now Wife there and we're still together

I must admit though in 1991 it all went a bit pear-shaped but the Company took risks and grew too quickly; buying *really* fancy new Offices/Works - I guess that was the start of the recession and John Major's stint at the job.

Here's a view from a kid in wales that just about lived during her reign and wasn't so lucky.
My dad was a miner who had plenty of opportunity to cross the picket lines to put some bread on the family table but chose to strike/picket along with the majority of others (a friend of his chose to cross them and was killed by a railway sleeper through a taxi window not far from my house) Dai should remember this?

My dad had more problems than this because his son (me) spent over a year in hospital at the same time having two major operations lung and later on liver both lasting 16 hours a shot and very touch and go...This hospital was in Cardiff an hours train ride and my mother had to make this trip every day and my father when he was home and somehow pay for it because i had 3 brothers back home the youngest who was 1 at the time had to move in with my aunty to be cared for.

Financially two people helped them out, my grandfather who bought my dad an old beat up mini van for transport to Cardiff and no doubt put lots of petrol in it for them...Probably about 50p a litre
And an old farmer called Mr Simons who my parents bought their house from on a pay when you have money basis  He was very kind and knew that eventually he'd get his money... i imagine my parents would be living in council accomodation now had it been mortgaged... we know how kind the banks are.

Okay i can't blame her for my illnesses but what she did had a huge effect on my family, i won't celebrate her death but i won't mourn her either.

i don't want to bore you with all the details

Now let's see that on the advertising hoardings around the UK...

That was kind of what the petition in my link was about (hope you all signed it before it ended :frown: )

I'll do it for the cost of a couple of meters of wood and a box of matches, I already have a wheelbarrow

The trouble is that still implies that the tax payer pays for her funeral and I don't like the idea of us paying a single penny towards her interment, no matter how much of a joyous occasion it is. Let her stupid kids pay for it, just sell a few more rocket launchers and land mines to the Afghanis Mark, you'll soon recover the cost.

Btw I just checked WIki and it appears that Dennis was knighted? When the f*ck did that happen? Ffs if that feckless drunken idiot could be made a knight I should be the Earl O.B.E. of f*cking Earwig!!

Being a youngster :supafrisk: I can't remember when she was in power so it would be incredibly wrong for me to judge her without knowing what she did, or didn't do.........

So you don't actually know anything about anything that happened before you were born?
