Broken key fob

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Broken key fob

Post by JonnyH »

Hi can anyone help me with a broken key fob for a 2000 hdi 90. The little rubber button fell out and then the key fob stopped opening the doors after a while. What are my options here as I only have one key. I have tried reprogramming the key by putting it in the ignition and pressing the button and that doesnt seem to work. The lights come on when I press the buttons but nothing budges. Can I get a new fob and reprogramme it? I dont want to go to peugeot as I know that will be a small fortune. Also any ideas how to get a new key and fob as a spare at a sensible price.

Thanks

Get a matching key fob or case of the bay - reprogamming the central locking is as per the handbook and no need to go to pug for it.
Remember - it only takes a few inches of water to drown a 406 don't make the same mistake I made! The V6 Exec is no more.

Could you buy a key at the breakers and program it with pp2000?

No need to have the key reprogrammed, you can diy, just press button once, then press it again.

This might help you - I just repaired mine with a repair kit I found on Ebay. It consists of two micro switches, the large and small rubbers and a battery. Just open the fob carefully then lift out the small circuit board. You can see the two micro switches through a magnifying glass, prise them off. Using some tweezers and a very small solder tip (steady hand is useful too) solder the switches in place. Replace the rubbers and battery and your done with this part. Press the larger button and you will see the light on continuous press the large button again and that should now operate the flashing light on the fob. Put the key into the ignition and turn it to battery position and press the large button for 10 seconds and that should be it.

Good luck

Good idea if you have the time/patience, I'd rather send it out, can't be bothered with the aggro.

Got just the rubber insert on the fob replaced for £15 at auto locksmith. Job done.
