Indicator Light Flashing on Switch-On..

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Indicator Light Flashing on Switch-On..

Post by trufflehunt »

A funny happening....

Number of times recently when I've switched on the ignition, the left-hand indicator light on the dash starts flashing,
and doing the clicks. (Though I haven't checked the lights outside yet).

It does that for a number of seconds as the display goes through its sequence of service interval, oil level etc.
then the indicator stops.

I haven't left the indicator stalk down or anything like that.

Just wondered if anyone else has experienced this, and what they did about it?

Leave your right hand indicator on, switch off, then without touching the stalk switch on. What happens?

Also, you could try the BSI reset procedure which can be found in the knowledge base forum, but I'm thinking it's more a stalk issue?

Do you have COM2000 stalks:

or old ones?

The right hand indicator works as normal when I switch back on as above.

Stalks are of the old type. ( Haven't tried BSI reset as it's bit dark right now outside)

On the left indicator.... it doesn't happen every time.., but occurs often enough to seem rather odd.

Hi, I had the same problem with a 306 and an 806.
Indicator ticks on its own but lights aren't flashing. Your stalk may start to smoke soon, best replace it with an identical one from eBay etc, ( check for horn, fogs etc - must be the same or will result in dodgy lights ) maybe £10?
Takes 5 mins to replace, just a couple of torx screws and a plug!!

P.S how old is the car, is it pre 1999?

I think I gave £15 for my new wiper stalk (with button, yay) from Ade on the coupe forums. Guy is brilliant, highly recommended from me.

I have a similar issue as the indicator constantly keeps indicating left as the stalk has become highly sensitive and a rough road surface or turning left is enough to cause it to start indicating. Although the indicator stalk is not fully down the slightest movement down is enough to set it off, I now drive constantly holding the stalk to stop it randomly going off.

My car is a 53 plate 2litre HDI 110 Rapier, it has the automatic light switch on the end of the stalk, I have looked on eBay but all I can find is an older type. Can the stalk be fixed if stripped and cleaned or is it a new unit, if so where I can get one.

Many thanks

I think the saloons are the same as the Coupe then.

There is a lovely chap on eBay ( ade1122 I think ) who can help you out.

He is a very reputable and established Coupe breaker.

I bought a replacement stalk, arrived today. When I compared it closelywith what
is in the car, there is no horn graphic. A press button, yes, but with 2 arrows.
I'd always assumed that was the horn, but have never used it..,
I press the steering wheel for the horn.

Here are the pics.... 1st one is what I've bought. Second one is what is in the car.
Thing is.. there is no mention in the owners handbook about what the 2-arrow button does.
And when I press it, with or without the engine running, it doesn't seem to do anything at all.
Nor does it seem to do anything with or without the lights on.

Anyone know what it's supposed to do?

The >> button should cause the sat nav to repeat the last instruction.
Remember - it only takes a few inches of water to drown a 406 don't make the same mistake I made! The V6 Exec is no more.
