Had a custom remap done

Post by Captain Jack »

Hello,

Now that my car is mechanically OK and is probably at its best now than it ever will be, I thought I'd treat it to a custom remap. Some of you know that I have been on and off the "eBay map" that is floating around the net due to it shredding my dual mass flywheel and clutch. All the power came in at around 2000 rpm in one huge lump and, while it felt nice to have that "shove", I left everything in a huge cloud of black smoke behind me with pieces of my engine being shaken to pieces.

So, I contacted OdinEidolon (Adriano) on this forum who has very good reviews over on the coupe forums and set to work. I gave him my requirements, including deleting the EGR and the air doser from my engine (EGR is physically removed and air doser is disconnected) and placed the order yesterday. This evening I had the ready file back to me. I flashed it and can report the following:

- The acceleration is very smooth and picks up nicely through the rev range
- It is completely smoke free!

I will test it some more over the coming days and see how I get on with it. It feels very different from my “eBay map” in that it’s so smooth, almost like a petrol but in a good way. Perhaps feels like I have slightly less power but it’s probably not the case, it’s just spread over the rev range, rather than one big lump at 2000 rpm. There's still a shove in the back - just a more prolonged one AND it's not ripping the engine/clutch/DMF to pieces. Did I say it was completely smoke free no matter how hard I accelerated?

I have been told that there is still reserve power and torque available so if I feel like I need some more, I can just ask   But more will become clear as I drive it more and get acquainted with the new power delivery.

No problems recommending Adriano and his team - great communication and they know what they are talking about.

Nice!

You only need to look at the speedo to realise what's really going on, the standard HDi was like this in that it didn't feel as quick as the old 2.1 12v td but the power was more evenly spread.

I like what you've done in that all the mechanicals are new where needed and you've got a good base to gain some cheap enjoyable motoring for a few more years.

I call it an eBay map but it's actually just a generic map that came from some site - cost £10. The main issue I had with this one is that it gave me TOO much power. If I put my foot down on acceleration, there would be a very healthy kick but this would result in a mass of black smoke from the back and occasionally the whole car would judder to clutch hanging on for dear life on the flywheel. The new clutch/DMF has helped a lot in this respect but it has happened again once or twice, which means the innards are being shredded. Due to this, I drove on and off with a factory map and I always used it for MOT - there's no way it would pass with the eBay one.

I had Adriano look at that eBay map and he said it was utter crap as timing was not adjusted at all, resulting in smoke, only 10 maps were changed (out of around 110) and torque limiters were set incorrectly.

Indeed. The thing I love about this custom map is the smoothness - YOU judge how fast you want it accelerate. It doesn't shoot forward at the merest touch of the pedal but needs a good press down. I think I might ask for a tiny smidge more power applied at a lower end of the scale but I'll drive for a few more days to ascertain that it's really what I want.

I still miss my 2.1TD. It was remapped and went like stink....

Their custom maps are superb, I have both my cars mapped by them and they are them most natural power progressions i have ever felt from a remap, the more 'sedate' maps make the car feel like it should of from the factory, the extreme ones are just great fun, i would highly recommend them to anyone

My previous car was a Renault grand scenic 1.9dci,after having it for a couple of years I decided to buy a tuning box off ebay. I fitted it to the fuel rail electrical connection and all was great.
It had 9 different power settings on it it was on 5 when I fitted it and drove it round for a couple of weeks, I thought to myself lets crank it up see what it can do.Big mistake "check injectors" fault message up and car went into limp mode.I disconnected the box still no good, I then got the fault codes read and reset it was saying egr and injector fault.
Limp mode would not clear,I think the injectors needed replacing so I part exchanged the car!!
I am never putting one of those things on my car again!!
