Decided to give the 406 a miss for 2 reasons. 1. I don't like the fact that the price increased by £200 & 2. It appears to have a rather nasty battle scar on the front corner. Still went out though & I've found my new car & left a deposit.
Not too sure if I should publicise it too much though as I may get lynched...

Thats cool - they are good motors and much much better than the Scenic. Just needs more regular servicing after 70,000 miles.
Lots of cosmetic goodies available for these now as well.

Oh great so it's bad enough we've got volcanic Volvo chat and fooked fords we now have rancid Renault talk too
A Scenic? Really? I did consider a Grand Scenic briefly, but there are too many things that go wrong with them. Modern Renaults in general aren't too reliable, but the Scenics seem to have so many electrical issues I'd have to have an auto-electrician on a permanent payroll. That accompanied with the fact that a lot of them seem to have a DPF equipped (& pretty gutless) 1.5 DCi engine pretty much put them out of the running not long after I started looking. There are a few modern Renaults that I think are quite nice & they can be really good value for money, but I don't think I'd want to risk owning one.
The 9 seater Trafic idea wasn't all that ridiculous though. We had a Vivaro 12 seat minibus that we hired to take to Ireland, so that we could take a load of Jack's old baby stuff over for the sister-in-law a couple of years ago & apart from the 60mph limiter on it I quite liked it. We had the back row of seats taken out so it was a 9 seater with a massive boot & it still managed to fit in a normal car parking space. However, Vauxhall don't do a family version in the same fashion as Renault do with the Trafic & they're all too expensive anyway. Whilst hunting through for minibus variants I did also contemplate an ex-Royal Mail LDV Maxus which was equipped with a row of seats behind the 3 in front, but after speaking to the dealer I wrote that off when he informed me that you'll only usually find the extra seats in Royal Mail vans, but they always buy in basic spec which means no air con. May have been able to offset the extra fuel costs by making use of the large load area, but there was no way that we were going to be sweating our bo**ocks off in the Summer for it.

Someone's been paying attention. Found it Friday. Was planning on looking at the 406 in Swindon afterwards, but wasn't too impressed with the mysterious price increase (probably because they were getting interest in it) or the battle scarred front end that was showing in the pics.
