How many teeth are on the rear bearing
Anyone know How many teeth are on the rear bearings, i want to change the two rear backplates with new ones from the dealers (might actually get them galvanised or better painted before putting them on the car to keep them from disintegrating), and i also want to replace the rear bearings while im there, how many teeth do the back bearings have.
Would i need to get dealer bearings or would anything from the motorfactors/ebay do?

Re: How many teeth are on the rear bearing
Hi, I am in the process of removing my donor cars back plates to get them zinc painted or something as mine are rusted most of the way round..!!
It is a 40mm socket to remove hub nut, I needed to put a hollow metal towing arm on the end of socket t-bar to shift it..!!
Looking on eBay, it seems the ones with ABS have 48 teeth. Costs seem to vary, so a phone call to a local mf will be the best bet.
Please let me know how you get on.

Re: How many teeth are on the rear bearing
The dealers are looking £114+VAT for the rear bearings, the backplates are going to cost £190 (for tin plates
) so i dont want to spend as much on bearings.
But given how expensive these plates are they need to be zinc coated or similar to keep them good, i also think they are part of the reason the handbrake is always shite.

Re: How many teeth are on the rear bearing
I reckon you need to talk to Ade for the back plates
29 teeth for a D8, 48 teeth for a D9.

and the ones without have 29... no, hold on, none.GingerMagic wrote:it seems the ones with ABS have 48 teeth

Re: How many teeth are on the rear bearing
I mind talking to ade, he had backplates but they were still rightly flaky, given the work involved in taking them off it makes more sense to replace them with new ones.
48 teeth thats good to know, thanks. It was one of them things servicebox was no help with, not even the pug dealer knew how many teeth it had.

Re: How many teeth are on the rear bearing
Looks like I am lucky to have a donor car with good back plates then..
Can anyone recommend a good zinc type paint for them, I am waiting for an ebay hub puller then they will hopefully be off.
I will also replace the rear hubs / bearing when I swap the back plates over, I think I saw some for around £45 per side, can't remember where though....

Re Zinc primer, Zinc 182 by Davids, brilliant stuff if you prep the surface well.

Will add picture when done...

Re: How many teeth are on the rear bearing
How much is zinc plating, id definatley have them treated before putting them on the car, they cost too much to leave untreated

Re: How many teeth are on the rear bearing
I have found a local plating company in Ferndown opposite where I work. Nice friendly bunch, have offered to zinc-plate both back-plates for £10.
The proof is in the pudding though..

Re: How many teeth are on the rear bearing
I finally got them:

complete with the lion chevron logo:

They cost £170.68
(apparently 10% off, but id have preferred if they hadnt stuck a 0 onto the end of the price they should be)
I went asking about zinc plating it, it would need sand blasted and then in the words of my cousin "it would warp like f*ck", he says to get it powder coated instead over the exhisting paint, what do you think. There is possibly the argument that this is a 11 year old car but i dont really look at the car as a disposable item if i put a part on it i want it to last.

Wow!FarmerPug wrote:I finally got them:

I wouldn't worry about it. I mean, without treatment they last over 10 years before becoming troublesome. I imagine over the next 10 years, you'd need to replace every single part on the car which contains rubber if you were going to keep it. That's an expensive proposition, and if PSA discontinue and run out of stock of hoses etc, it'll be a lot more expensive to have new ones custom-madewhat do you think. I'm getting sick of replacing broken rubber bits
