Any chance of some pics of this Mondingo Dave? Really bad news about the Plodmobile getting killed off (especially after you beat me for "Car Of The Day" at Gaydon), but reckon after the work you've put into losing all that weight you've probably earned the right to a new toy.

'Kick' in the Bollocks? more like a load of Bollocks. I hate diagnostics like that, why the hell would you need a new loom? sounds like a communication error and although difficult to find there will be a pinch-point somewhere or a chafing wire along the route. I'm sure that with a lot of research first you'd narrow the problem down to something really simple in the end.
Cars in my care:
2021 Kia Spottage 1.6 Pez Turbo Dual Clutch Gearbox Trickery
2013 Renner Twingo - donkey work
There's a u bend on the loom where water ingresses
It's being cut out and replaced today but still going to best part of £200 as they've got to take loads off to access the problem area

Monsieur Bailes might be interested in case it affects his Mondingo?

I think it is a problem with the manufacture of the harness, I work in the automotive design industry, and it looks like the manufacturer of the harness uses a tool to wrap the foam protection around the cables, that tool will have a blade to cut the foam when it covers the part of the harness it is required to protect. I suspect looking at the problem on my car that this tool will have been set up incorrectly, and the blade allowed to 'nick' the insulation just enough to allow water into the conductor..........it's just a matter of time before it fails, but probably won't have been visible when new.
Working in this industry, I know how easily these things happen, and how difficult they are to spot, the fact that my car took 3 years to show the problem probably means that Ford where blissfully unaware until recently, and hence there were probably a couple of years worth of vehicles on the road before they applied any corrective action! A scary thought
