Lack of mods for a D8

Post by Benner »

Hey all,

Has anyone found any good modifications for a D8? All I can find, chrome/trim wise etc, is for the D9.

Is it just me or has the D8 been missed out in this area?

I have a D8. My mods are subtle (which IMO is best. The car looks good as is, why f*ck with it?)

I have so far put the following on my car:

D9 Leather Steering Wheel
D9 Leather gear knob
D9 Colour coded tinted glass wing mirrors
D8 Top spec rear parcel shelf (the one with the container and integral sun blind)
D9 GTX Alloys
Silver chrome trim on rub strips around car (and across rear lights as you can make out in my avatar)
Large Silver Peugeot Lion on boot lid above locking mechanism.
Oh, some chrome trim on my lower grille too!

Simple mods, not too expensive and make your car look a million bucks once all shined up in the summer.

Alloys and silver trim most visable:

Silver trim on lower grille visable here:

More silver trim and the large lion badge on the boot lid: (The INJECTION badge was a mistake, its getting removed as soon as I figure out how)

Most up to date pick of me car, with the new mirrors. They REALLY make all the mods gell together IMO

The best thing about all these mods is, it can all be claimed as manufacturer standard. So no insurance hike!

Very very smart Blue :D

I like all the subtle touches you've done there and can appreciate what a difference they make................still too standard for some of us

Hi Blue,

Car's looking good! Where did you get all the chrome trim from? This is the sort of thing i'm after just to tart up my car, dont like all these big spoilers and body kits.

Thanks

Bluey, if that 'injection' badge has raised lettering you can get a thin gauge electrical wire behind each letter and carefully 'cheese wire' them off. Use coated wire though.

You will be left with black sticky bits but these will come off with meths, then polish.

If it's a flat sticker then oh boy, I'll leave you with it

Actually, a hair drier is supposed to help liberate a flat sticker but I've not tried it.

And Benner, the 406 is not really popular on the modding scene therefore manufacturers will not invest in producing stuff for a very limited market.

Came in 6 meter rolls from Halfords. Make sure you buy stuff with 3M adhesive backing. Anything else will come off after a few rainfalls.

MY local Halfords no longer sells the stuff. Dunno if its the same all over. They do sell smaller rolls of stuff from Japan. But it looks dodgy.

Thanks for the comments folks :) Tis appreciated.

It is a flat sticker. Well Stickers. The letters are independant. Going to try the hair dryer approach once the weather picks up. My mate has panel wipe which will remove the stickiest of residues!

Blue, when you are putting the stuff on your tyres, are you brushing it on or something similar?

I can never get mine to look that good!

Wow - my base model 2.0 ST has the upspec rear parcel shelf with the bind and the little box thingy which is meant for a first aid kit. Also my mirrors are painted as well...seems a tad strange considering my car doesnt have climate or the trip puta???

Probably the only mod I have planned for the 406 is to sell it for a V6 or a Coupe? :cheesy:

Armour All Tire Foam for the win!
You can get it from Halfrauds.

Once on it can last a week in the summer, several days in normal weather.

Aye. thats the stuff I'm using, as recommended by your good self a while ago. I'm probably not getting the full coverage. I'll try spreading it about a bit!

Be sure to give the tire walls a good scrub before you apply it.

Then hold the nozzle about 8 to 10 inches away and spray, following the tire around. Works for me.

Wipe the excess from your alloys though.

Hi Blue,

Have looked into the chrome trim and have come across many different widths, do you have any suggestions as to which is best?

Also, what did you use to remove the residue after you had removed the vinal from the doors?

Thanks

Well done for spotting that I had removed the vinyl from the doors 8).

I used nail varnish remover at first but then my friend shook his head and offered me some professional panel wipe. Great stuff. Will clean just about anything off of paintwork.

My chrome beading is 6mm wide and is a flattened D in shape across its width. Seems to work best.
Any thicker and you might run into flexibility issues as the top edge of the rub stripes have a tight curve.

My beading sits against the paintwork and is stuck to the rub strips along the top edge. This way, I was assured a perfectly straight line on the beading.

I suppose for the grille you could get away with 3 to 5 mm beading. I've seen some for sale thats designed to go over the lip of straight and large curved edges. That might work nicely.
