Estimated value?

Post by Sonia406 »

Just seen on my cover note the "estimated value" off Miss Pug is only £695.
What are yours worth?
This seems too low.

When my 406 LX saloon was written off in January 2011, it had a pre-accident estimated value of £1000 (i.e. that's how much it would have been worth if it was pristine).

That was for a V-reg (1999) early D9 saloon in LX trim with a 1.8 litre petrol engine. Yours is a GLX (?) estate with a 2.0 litre petrol and is newer than my old car was. Yours is in good condition and in my book, should be worth more than £1000. That is, unless the 406 is now generally considered to be worth less now than it was back then, regardless of age, trim, engine, or condition.
2002 (D9) Peugeot 406 Coupe SE, 2.2 litre Petrol. Scarlet Red/Rouge Ecarlate/Rosso Scarlatto. Black Leather interior. SOLD :(
2008 (E60 LCI) BMW 525i M-Sport, 3.0 litre Petrol. Carbonschwarz Metallic. Black Dakota Leather and Myrtlewood interior.

Just an LX but yes... It is worth more than £1,000! Find a 7 seater on ebay or anywhere else in as decent nick as mine with 7 seats....
When I got this in 2011 (December) I couldn't find any 7 seaters for less than £1k.............

Where do they get these estimates from?

An insurance broker who advertises on this site told me that you should always value at over £1000 since 'bangers' are more risky to insure and so attract higher premiums. :supafrisk:

Current: 407 2.2 HDi 170 & C6 2.7 HDi.
Former: 406 1.9 TD; 406 HDi 90; 407 2.2 160; 307cc 180; 508 HDi 140.

Interesting... cos they didn't once ask me what I thought it was worth. Instead just wrote it on the cover note!
I was willing to sell her on about this time last year  for £800 and even then, that's wayyyyy too cheap in my eyes. You get a whole lot of car and although she isn't for sale I wouldn't want to sell her for under 1k unless I absolutely had to. When I was going to sell her it was because she was still 'new' to me but now I have worked on her personally, I feel like I have bonded......... I know what's wrong, what's right and I know where I stand with her now........... :D

My insurers have never asked me the values

My 306 and the wife's Nissan, is just listed as market value on the cover notes.

Iwouid always over price the value, if they ask
Underestimate a value and you can end up owing them money in the event of a claim
They can be crafty.. bastids

At the moment they are being pains in the bottoms!!

They stupidly asked for proof of my no claims, which I sent off Saturday 20th April (3 weeks ago). They still haven't received it so have done a 'verbal confirmation' from my previous insurance company to validate I have 3 years no claims.
All going well - until today I receive a letter stating
''We have called the insurer who's details you provided, however, their policy expired on the 26.03.12. We need proof from the company who insured your vehicle until 2013. Please call us with this information.''

Shortly after that insurance was cancelled the car was SORN and has been off road ever since - so, are they now trying to strip me of my no claims because it hasn't continually been insured?

The problem is with at least a £200 deposit on the policy - it's not something I can afford any time soon. :(
I must admit I am getting really annoyed

As loz says fook them off , use the money to pass your test then look
again for insurance , with things as they are at you can bet if anything
happens the insurance company wouldn't pay out saying they had not
recieved your ncb thus making your insurance void ..
.. ooh are those drugs for me Matron
