Although it is NOT the fluid that is the problem, instead the handbrake micro-switch fault, it WILL fail the MOT on this fault, even though it's FOOK all to do with the level of brake fluid.
Had to change that on mine. The switch doesn't cost much & is a different design to the original, so once changed, the fault shouldn't come back. I did it myself in my car & although it is a bit of a faff to get at, the fact that I did it should tell you how easy it is.

Which seatbelt is it that's knackered? I've got a couple of front ones, but no rears. Wouldn't have thought that would be a fail point anyway though - think it would have to be a lot worse than that to be unsafe.
How long did it take you to do? Is there much Haynes assistance? I don't think I have seen a topic on here about it being changed... Well done you by all accounts! :D
Unfortunately the middle row, middle. :(
Been told to use a lighter on it
I was just going to trim it up and make it look neat - with scissors!

Q: Is there any difference between abs control modules? I presume because the D9 have 48 teeth on the rings the module will be different than the D8's but what I want to know is - is there any difference with a HDi ABS control module, compared to a petrol ABS control module?

Cheers

Haynes is useless these days. The instructions are just too vague now because they try to cram so many models into each book

Haynes is useless these days. The instructions are just too vague now because they try to cram so many models into each book. Think I checked out how to remove the centre console on here, but it's really easy to do without instructions. The worst part is getting the switch in & out as it's a tight squeeze.

Middle seatbelt is probably the most awkward of the lot, but if it does come to the absolute worst & you have to replace, it can be removed so you could get one out of a scrapper.

With the ABS rings, I don't think there's much relation to the number of teeth & module types - when I needed new rings nobody was able to give a correct number of teeth for my car as apparently they vary too much & you can't tell which you need until you remove them. I ended up buying new drive shafts.

Yep, I know what you mean... Just a tad useless!
I shall hunt down that thread about how to remove the centre console.. Think I've come across it before..

Middle seat belt - I need to do some reading to see just where it attaches and what tools I need to remove it... Considering this whole ABS thing, I would think and hope the seat belt is a walk in the park

On closer looking up about these modules, a new module is MORE than the car is worth @ £750 from Euro Car Parts!
I can get a second hand one for about £40 off eBay - but looking at them I wouldn't be sure how to attach it because of the brake pipes etc... Looks a bit too confusing for me...

In fairness - I honestly don't think it's that, I am almost sure it is dodgy connection (hey, wouldn't be the first time would it?) joining to the abs sensor.
I doubt I can get a new plug for it, so probably going to take it out completely, solder together, heat shrink - job done.
Or, use a screw in connector box.

40 minutes of running earlier and she hadn't beeped with any faults, abs nor the fluid level one that's recently made its ugly face known.
If she passes, I'll have a cider to celebrate tonight.
If she fails, I'll have a cider and drown my sorrows.

That's a win win situation boys  Image

Congrats Team Pug, we passed the MOT!

Her MOT was Monday 4:30pm.
She is my first petrol car.
My sister bought her first car many years ago, she got a Peugeot 106 which was also petrol.
It failed on emissions and needed a catalytic converter. Back in those days a new cat would be several hundreds of pounds; thus - she scrapped the car.
So, one of main worries for this MOT was emissions.... After he'd done the emissions test which was better than excellent, I relaxed a little...

However, despite being otherwise in a fantastic state with all the work I have been doing (and with some help from a friend) she did fail the MOT on Monday.
The rear offside top suspension horizontal link bar had excessive play in the ball joint.
This link bar holds the wheel up straight if you will, with excessive play the wheel was able to move outwards and inwards - movement which is fairly unsafe, so of corse it failed on that.
That was the ONLY failure reason.
I went across the way to the motor factors, got the new link bar - £27 would you believe? Up North where my friend lives (the mobile mechanic) they are £9, I presume that's trade price but even still, I paid THREE TIMES that amount.
Wanting Miss Pug MOT'd asap I paid this price, got home and me and Dave fitted the new link bar together. It wasn't an easy job, like with anything the bolts were corroded to such a state it took will power and effort to remove the old one - and that's with the MOT tester being kind and ''lubing it up''.
I shall not tell you how weak I felt in my knees when a man checking over my car told me he was just going to lube her up for me........

Anyway, moving on.
Being a typical woman I wore a nice low cut top to impress.
As he failed the car, he said 'Hey, come here - you know what you're doing'
I went over, laid my chest onto the ramp to get a closer look at what was going on. I saw it alright.
Anyway, got back up from leaning said boobies on the ramp - only to see I had slight oil issues in a delicate area......

Anyway, as we were leaving the test station we asked about a re-test and booked her in for the next day (Tuesday).
Tuesday she went back for her re-test and she flew threw that with flying colours.

The ABS light hasn't been on for a few days now, so all appears well.

Please don't think because she's passed an MOT the jobs are done.
I still have LOADS to be doing.

* Oil and fuel filter change
* Auxiliary belt
* Timing belt and tensioners
* Cam belt
* LOOK at spark plugs, process of elimination with that job........

The importance of being a car owner is not that you drive it all the time, it's the importance of maintenance. Cars are like us, they need looking after. You look after them and they will look after us.
Even though I have put the oil and fuel filter change before the belts, I intend on doing the belts before the filters.
I do have a very annoying squeaking (auxiliary belt is slipping) and I do not have any previous service history so even I don't know when the last cam belt was done. That being said, because the car has been stood a while all belts will need doing to edge on the side of caution, as with any rubber they perish, crack etc - so definitely going to get those belts done soon........

When I finish the above list, I then have to go track down a donor car for some parts I need... Nothing major I grant you, just little niggles that I want sorted.

And on other news, My good friend Maria is on holiday and she's been told specifically Miss Pug wants a post card.
She's addressing it to; Miss Pug, the sexy thing on the drive...........
She best remember to do it and I shall post a picture when it arrives, Would love to see the post womans' face ;)

Over and out - for now. :)

Yeah - thanks for the recommendation.. The chap in question was really nice, I will definitely be going back next year too.
Absolutely nothing wrong with my handbrake - but I have seen proof of what you mean... mentioning no names, rwb!
Went back Tuesday and the D8 was gone...
I did try to explain to MOT chap that I was recommended and he then asked for your name and I was like, well I know his online name, I also know he drives a red 406 estate with a tow bar as he's goes touring in the caravan......
Reading your messages I now know your name but bless, he's going to be wracking his brains as to whom recommended me there
Thanks again for recommending him.........

I think this would be £225 for the year but 6 months is always more expensive...
