Hi all,
I'm a first time poster but long time 406 owner.
Can anyone identify this connector and what it should be connected to please? I have no idea what it is for?!
Many Thanks

it is in the right location for the fuel pump intertia reset switch that is normally clipped onto the inner wing.Cant be that though or the fuel pump wouldnt work unless the wiring has been connected further down the loom.

Re: Help! Random connector in engine bay
It's a 1998 2.1td 12v, off hand I don't know more about the engine specifically, but I can provide the vin if that would help?
I've just had the car back from the garage and I swear I haven't seen this connector sticking up before! They were given an eye watering amount of money to replace the clutch and associated hydraulics, so I will be calling them on Monday! In the meantime my goal is to discover what this connector is and whether it should be attached to something that appears to not be there :-)
Also... The starter motor has started screeching whilst also turning the engine over on the glowplug setting (hit it with a hammer and seems ok now)...my fine beast has many quirks, but more than ever before, I find myself nervously listening to every knock squeel bump...I'll be grey by the time I hit 160k (currently I'm on 159,600)
Any and all advice will be gratefully received :-)

I also have a loose connector over there. It's for nothing I think, but with that short of a reach you can probably just reach it around randomly while lloking for sockets:)

Is there any chance you can read any codes off of the wires?

Re: Help! Random connector in engine bay
Thanks TheSong, I've thought exactly the same and can't find anything it should be connected to, the engine starts and seems OK, no crazy warning lights anywhere either. I'm pretty sure that this does connect to a Fuel cut off / inertia switch (which is actually visible in the grainy Haynes engine photograph) but I'm starting to think that they didn't not install this on the diesel engines? Weirdly, I can't find a definitive answer anywhere online, but several mentions by other people of this random connector with nothing to attach to! Bless the French hey! Must be cheaper to use a single wiring set up and just attach what's needed.
Mr Earwig, I will definitely have a look for the codes on the wires as I feel this does demand a non speculative resolution! (well, for me anyway) otherwise I'm at risk of accusing my local garage of forgetting to put something back on my car!
