free wifi

Post by scotty73 »

Just looking on the caravan club website and this tickled me as a way to save money while off on holiday.

Just a quick one, any of y'all seen some National Express coaches advertising free WiFi onboard? Well you CAN get it in the comfort of your own car at a safe following distance! Pretty decent too! Not that one should be driving and surfing but the passengers love it! Just need to watch ya speed, them guys will do 65mph give or take! Great if ya solo, not so great touring!

That's all :D
Could work well with some of you guys who like to stay close to buses to help your mpg's.

Let me get this straight, you can use the coach's wifi if you're close enough and it's great if you're on your own?

Mjb's the only person I know of on here who likes to drive a few millimetres behind buses, lorries etc just to shave a few millionths off his fuel consumption, I wonder if he'd want to surf at the same time

Not a few mm; typically a truck's length behind, which is 18m. At 55mph, (24m/sec) that's the best part of a second's reaction time, which can then have another half second added on due to air brake lag. That is, assuming I'm not paying attention to the road ahead, which I do...

And the fuel consumption improvement is quite substantial - something like 20%, along with noticeably less wind noise (handy in the missus' car, which has roof rail bars on which are seized and can only be removed with an angle grinder...)
I wonder if he'd want to surf at the same time
God no! Although when I've finished my car computer replacement project, it'd be handy if I could use open wifi points to open up the spotify playlists I haven't marked as offline!
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang
