WARNING ALL 406 OWNERS READ THIS

Post by pugmiester406 »

The 406 doesnt seem to be very good at holding water out!!!!! abs light came on, fuel gauge was up and down, immobeliser kicked in, display panel stayed on without the key in and the battery had a 3amp constant drain......... so... by chance i pushed the car off drive to be able to work on it and spotted water dripping from the sill. I then felt under the drivers carpet after taking a few bits of trim off and it was soaked!! looking to the right hand side of pedals under the carpet, indeed on the floor pan there is 4 connecters one of which is a major harness connection. I inspected these and found them to be soaked through. After a thorough clean up, wd40 and blasted them out with a high pressure airline guess what? Everything is back to normal. The lot... Hope this helps anyone out there. Now ive just got to find the water leak!!!!!

This only apples to D9s (and I suspect only full-mux ones). It's not that 406s generally leak but if they do (and any car can leak, especially Alphas apparently) water can get into all sorts of stuff and wreak havoc.

I was spraying mine with waxoyl just the other day:

Gary listed a few in the Knowledge Base (not sure if he ever got to the bottom of that one...) Umm, sealing sheets butchered/missing from the insides of doors; front of roof-mounted aerial seals; sill drains blocked, coupled with broken sill seal clips letting water fill the sills until it runs into the car; sunroof drains blocked or broken.
