When you go to 'fix' something but make it worse...

Post by Welly »

Was at a loose end on Sunday afternoon so decided to remove the Volvo's headlight and projector housing to look at a long-standing minor issue there.......

My headlamp beam pattern is now ruined (a pet hate of mine) and it looks like I've mistakenly bent the projector 'shield' which creates the beam cut-off line :frown:

This is not the end of the world but will need A LOT of pissing about with trial and error and LOTS of headlamp in-and-out trial fits on the car :x

Why didn't I just leave it alone? it wasn't so bad anyway

What have you ever done like this????

Big list. Major things (non-work) I've broken in the last year include...
  • 406 Coupé brake refurbishment. Too easy to strip the threads in severely corroded aluminium...
  • XBox 360. Put a new quieter fan in, and a few days later it RROD'd
  • BMW 540i satnav. Working on an in-car Spotify player, drained the (admittedly on its last legs) battery, which caused the satnav unit to brick itself when I went for the starter.
  • BMW 540i ECU. Did "something" wrong in INPA (BMW equivalent of PP2000) and resulted in very erratic idling, "ENGINE FAILSAFE PROG" message, and a throttle pedal that did absolutely nothing. Thankfully I managed to fix this.
Heh guess I haven't broken too much this year YET. I've got to replace the bimmer's aux fan, o2 sensors, intensive washer pump and number plates this week though, so plenty of room for whoopsies there... I'll be very lucky is the parking sensors don't end up knackered knowing my luck
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

Let's just say I am not good at DIY...................
No one mention the whole curtain pole thing that happened last night..........

Just took apart my bed (getting a new one tonight) and well, one bolt wouldn't come away, Stripped head so I bent and sawed through the metal to get the bolt free, only some idiot decided it'd be a good idea to pick up the hack saw by the sharp blade...............

I don't think I can remember anything that I made worse by trying to fix it, there have been lots of stuff I failed to fix, broke, f*cked up, lost the bits for, damaged something else while I was doing it or for whatever reason it ended up in the bin but made worse? Nope, not me :cheesy:
