Well apart from the tiny smash we had in 2005, I have today witnessed an accident!

I was coming out of a shop, walking towards Miss Pug.
Took note of a nice china blue 306 estate. A lady (daughter) was getting a wheelchair out the back of it for her elderly mother in the passenger seat.
I carried on walking. My back towards this 306 and people.
I heard a car rev, then followed by a blood curdling scream and then followed by a BANG.
I instinctively walked back to see if everyone was OK.
I heard a man run over to the fiat bravo (the car that revved) and shouted 'DO NOT MOVE IT, STOP IT RIGHT NOW, I CAN MOVE IT FOR YOU, LEAVE IT RIGHT THERE''
I then realized the red bravo had an elderly driver who thought she'd put the car into forward drive but instead carried on reversing, running those two innocent people over.
For some reason she had then put it in forward drive and was going to move forward - which would of run the people over again

I didn't hang around too long, it was giving me goose bumps. Air ambulance and police were quickly on the scene, and a chap in a RAF uniform was already on the phone to call them when I had walked back to see.

I am physically in shock as to what I witnessed today, my second sons 7th birthday.
I hope the lady with the 306 and her Mother are ok.

Absolutely horrific.

I think elderly drivers should have regular tests to check their awareness on things like this - it's putting lives in danger.

That sounds bad, the amount of times I've heard of accidents where the old giffer driver has got 'confused' and then continued to plough on until something hard stops the car

I guess I shouldn't sit here and judge but it must be a comms error between brain and muscle, my old Grandfather still insisted on owning a car and even though we demonstrated it would be cheaper and easier to get a Taxi to the shops he wouldn't have any of it and carried on driving......bouncing off every bollard/kerb you could find

It's not nice seeing accidents, stays with you for a bit and you can't help imagining yourself in their positions, puts things into perspective if nothing else

To be fair I really nearly went over there and asked about their pug. I can't help but think if I had gone over to talk about the pug things would of been different, and I'd of seen it coming and been able to move them out the way quickly.......

.....and if they'd spent 2 minutes longer in the bathroom this morning they wouldn't have been there at all, it's life with all its little twists and turns

When we leave the house of a morning we should always bear in mind that we may be dead by tea time, keeps me on my toes anyway

Cars DO kill but careless drivers KILL MORE, I hope the people who were knocked down are ok

year and i dont drive like a doddering old twat ask doggy so a little
unfair to generalise .

should pass your driving test before you pass comments like that ?

9 years driving = no accidents.
I am not your average ''learner'', if you got in my car you'd find that out.
At the end of the day I stand by that statement that people say over a certain age should have their awareness levels checked when driving because they are slower to respond. That was not a dig at you, please don't think it was.
It actually takes the piss I drive better than some licence holders, & yes, test is coming very soon.

What you lot also need to realize is we are all going to be old drivers at some point, some of us like Sonia might be old drivers without a licence "who knows"

But What i do know is we will all be old fuckers at some point so have some respect.

On a serious note i can see what people mean my grandmother is nearly 90 and her partner in crime is 90 and if left to him he'd still be driving now it wasn't until going down the arse end of a dual carriageway that the family realized he's almost blind.

So my point about the respect is we're all drivers on here who hopefully will grow old (disgracefully if you're Puggy) and none of us will want to give our licence back or take age related re-tests.

It must be difficult to surrender your licence to be fair, must be like a final blow to your independence.

Why do you think seniors drive so slowly? are they scared? they can't react so slow down to give more time for everything? they're enjoying the views? time doesn't really matter? who knows........

Giving up his licence was like a final straw to him his eyes wern't the best anyway and his hearing is shot to bits... Having drove for a living in the past and the car being his independence it was a right kick in the bollocks.

Oh i think that was a wrong choice of words there after he was admitted to hospital last week for a ruptured scrotum.
