Its a long shot but....

Post by MrBob »

Does any one know the reg plate P218HOJ?

It's an abandoned 406 I'm trying to find the owner of because I want it!

its been left in a privet car park for 3 years, its not insured, taxed (tax ran out 2 years ago) or MOTed, got an inch of dust over it and 2 flat tyres

the car park attendants tell me it's been sat there for 3 years, as its in a privet car park the police are bothered with it and tell me its only the car park owner who can chase up the owner of the car and have it removed not me, the car park owner who i have spoke with said they have looked into it but haven't really took it any further

my next step is a V888 form to request the ownership details from the DVLA but i doubt they will give me it as you need a reason to have them and I'm not sure 'i want to become owner of it' is a good enough reason

That's interesting, I don't blame you for asking on here but fear that as its been sat for so long then they're unlikely to be an active member here also?

If the owner of the Crap Park can't/won't help then maybe you can approach the DVLA about it? it has to be worth a try surely?

Can you find who did the last MOT and ask them for the owners contact details?

It would be great if you could track them down.....

The reason "the vehicle has been left in a car park for 3 years, and I would like to purchase it from its owner" seems perfectly reasonable to me, but of course these are civil servants we're dealing with...

I'd send it: if they refuse then you haven't lost anything. They can't come and remove the car -- only the car park owner can do that.

If they refuse then you need the car park owner to do the V888 and give you the results.
Or maybe the car park owner could contract you to remove the vehicle for them.
Could you get a letter from the car park owner, to include with your V888, confirming that the vehicle has been abandoned on their land and that you are tracing the owner on their behalf?

I'm not sure this is very helpful, but: I think the relevant legislation is the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012 Part 3 Chapter 2 Vehicles left on land.

Paragraph 55 is interesting: extension of powers to remove vehicles from land. This extends Section 99 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (Removal of vehicles illegally, obstructively or dangerously parked, or abandoned or broken down.) to apply to private land.

Paragraph 56 (Recovery of unpaid parking charges) may give the car park owner another avenue of investigation since there is an unpaid debt.

Current: 407 2.2 HDi 170 & C6 2.7 HDi.
Former: 406 1.9 TD; 406 HDi 90; 407 2.2 160; 307cc 180; 508 HDi 140.

Thats an idea that I didn't think of, but checked the VOSA website you need the last MOT number or the number of the V5C

again some ideas that didn't cross my mind thanks!

I've been in contact with the manager of the car park and left my details with them but 2 months have passed and not heard anything from them, thats why i want to take it on my self i don't want them removing/crushing it and forgetting all about me

Some good ideas from Highlander, the Crap Park owner/manager won't want to do anything unless they get a tickle out of it (a drink, or 'bung' etc wouldn't have to be much) and YOU will have to do all the donkey work like filling in the forms, sending them off etc. on their behalf.

You need to get friendly with the Car Park people and without becoming a nuisance if you know what I mean, explain you are an enthusiast and want the car for a project, that sort of thing. I think you can get that car but you'll have to be persistent, but patient too.

Hell they must be sick of seeing the thing anyway :|

Why do you want it? There are plenty of other 406s on the market!

That said, it was probably left in a carpark for a reason - default on finance?

Agree with most of this.

Seems to me that if the car has been left there unattended, all this time, all that's needed is a notice stuck on the screen by the car park people
or their agent whcih says something like... "This car appears to have been abandoned. If it is not removed within 14 days (or somesuch), we shall do so.

You must have seen the occasional car sat in the local Tesco car park for ages. That's what they do....

Yes, emphasise that you are an enthusiast.

Eww, 'that' interior

Keep us informed of progress on this it'll be interesting. I'd also get speaking to the DVLA - I'm starting to remember something about being able to apply to change the 'registered keeper' of a car not the 'owner' - the DVLA write to the owner at the registered address and give notice then if nothing happens the 'keeper' details pass to you (not the ownership though) but you will be allowed to use the car but if the owner ever turns up you'd have to give it back. Also clearly you won't be able to obtain the keys to the thing.

To that end I found this to read which sounds encouraging in some ways... http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topi ... r%3F&mid=0
