Brake pedal pulsation

Post by Samir »

Hi there, I used to have an intermittent pulsation on my brake pedal when braking at low speed , I changed all my discs and pads but the problem got worse, the pulsation got worse and I started having some squeaky noise when braking, my mechanic suggested the cheap parts I bought online from euro car parts were the cause, at this point I decided to buy a better quality front discs and pads (in case the discs were warped) ,,,,unfortunately this didn't fix the problem either. I don't know if I should change the rear discs and pads as well or this is going to be money down the drain again :(
Can anyone advise please?
Could this be the abs /abs sensors/ or simply the rear discs.
As I said its a frequent pulsation on pedal at low speed (below 40m/h)

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Welcome Samir! :D
When you fitted the new pads did they slide freely into the caliper or were they a tight fit?
On some pads they have "hrns" on the top that need filing down to allow the pads to slide freely; also make sure you give the calipers a damn good clean and smear some copper grease on the back of the pads.
Re the squeal; you can minimise this by filing a chamfer around the face edges of the pads.

Over the 7 years I`ve had my 406,i sometimes get the pulsating pedal at slow speed.Normally after a few days or a week or so the abs light will come on and the pulsating goes away. Its normally the abs ring on the cv joints or rear hubs,or a abs sensor.

Thank you all for your suggestions , I have just come back from Wales and the brakes were fine on high speed, still the same problem when driving slowly though, I am popping to my friends garage to check out the abs ring and sensors and I wil keep you updated.

Cheers
