Help needed, I've been a PP Plonker....

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Help needed, I've been a PP Plonker....

Post by GingerMagic »

I was innocently messing around today with PP2000, just to get to grips with it, and I stumbled across the Accessories menu, looked at the radio options and thought ' how easy is it to put in a CD player ' so I went through the menu but didn't turn off my ignition as prompted. 8)

Now I have no radio and can't seem to get it back...... I tried unplugging it and plugging it in but it still doesn't work.

It won't turn on, even the mfd doesn't change when I turn radio on - nothing. :(

Any help rectifying this would be much appreciated.

Any response will be a guess, but have you tried getting yourself back to the situation you had just before you should have turned the ignition off?

Go through the config menu fro adding a new radio?

Failing that, try disabling it altogether, then re-enable?

Can you power up your 'spare parts special' for a comparison?

As doggy says... then you could try disconnecting the battery, or failing that try a BSI reset maybe?

Could be you've messed up the EEPROM in something (hopefully the stereo, not the BSI) in which case you're going to be wanting a new one.

All sorted. I put PP2000 back on the car - after charging my laptop - and went through the motions.
Adding the cassette player didn't work, removing the cassette player worked..
Maybe the car thought I had 2 stereos...

Not fussed about the radio, most of the stuff they play is bobbins, but miss my CD's ( I'm sooooo 90's )

Lesson learnt, don't play around with PP2000 too much if you are a beginner.

You'll need patience of a saint to install the damn software....

Seriously though, you'll need a laptop running XP (or a later OS with virtual XP) and the hardware which you'll find everywhere on E-Bay. There are some UK sellers but most seem to come from China.
Mine came from China but it got here in astoundingly quick time. It was collected by DHL on Friday 7th Feb 2012 in Hong Kong at 22.28 and it was in my hands 2 days later at 12.20!
Superb tracking all the way.....Hong Kong:Leipzig:East Midlands Airport:Cambridge:Me!

I believe the best route is to get an old XP lappy and just put PP on there and nothing else. Use it solely for car diagnostics and don't let it connect to the web. At least that way, your shiny expensive lappy is not being used outside of it's comfort zone.

The PP2000 lead is in 2 parts, 1 is USB to diagnostic tool with a PC monitor type fitting, then the diagnostic tool is plugged into the car's port.

Ebay has some good pictures as a guide.

I got my PP2000 for £75 and a cheapish laptop with XP for £30. Took a couple of goes to install properly and work it out but has been good as gold - its just me making mistakes..

I think I only want this to install cruise control, think maybe I'll just speak with my garage about how much they would likely charge.

Sounds great and appreciate the invite, however, over 180 miles and 4 hours travel... not this time ;)
