Le Mans 24 ~ Allan Simonsen

Post by Sonia406 »

Anyone heard of this tragic accident that happened yesterday at the Le Mans 24 hour race?

News Story

I think it was only earlier this month I attended a Fiat meet at the Pro-drive Factory in Banbury, Oxfordshire and saw the Aston Martin in pieces, preparing and getting ready for the race.

His facebook page

a short video of the accident
Looks like he hit the blue paint and just lost it - very very sad.

A tradgedy. I did see it, I always watch at least some of the race - used to go every year, my bro has only missed one since 1984.
This happened not far from the scene of the last fatality - Jo Gartner's accident in 1986, (which had most of us thinking the race should have been abandoned).
This years race carried on too, with the Aston Martin team continuing at the express request of the Simonsen family.
I guess they believed it's what he would have wanted. They have my deepest sympathy.
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)
