Question to service box experts

Post by scotty73 »

I'm looking at getting my speed sensor replaced so looked for the part on service box (typed in speed sensor) nothing came up so searched ebay and found this.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Peugeot-106-2 ... 1c34334301

Put the oem number (616070) back into service box and it came back TACHOMETER CONTROL 5 DOOR ESTATE EXCEPT TAXI OR 5 DOORS FAMILY ESTATE.

So that was my long ass way of finding out what part i need but it says "not family estate" anyway... It's to early for this sh*t I'm confused but need to order the right part so i can get away with not fitting it myself. :supafrisk:

Mine says 19208S :? I'm thinking that list of compatible cars is a work of pure fiction

Use your VIN for a filter: Mechanical -> Engine -> air & fuel supply -> INJ CALCULATOR SENSOR -> it's #9 on the diagram I got, probably yours too.

Oh! Yep, you're right, both say "speed sensor", I presume one's for the flywheel (as in engine speed sensor) but I've no idea which is which

6160-70 is the vehicle speed sensor and fits on to the final drive on the gearbox. It gives data to the ecu on vehicle speed which is used for the speedo (obviously... ) and for things like power steering if you have the speed sensitive variable power steering fitted. Cruise control also takes a nibble of this data too.
1920-8S is the flywheel speed sensor and fits on the top of the bellhousing and 'looks' down at the reluctor teeth on the flywheel to give the ecu crankshaft speed and positional data.

Both are easy to replace but the flywheel sensor may be buried under mounds of plumbing depending on your car.

So 6160-70 is the one needed to (possibly) solve an intermittent speedo problem?

Yes. The 3 pin version is for D9's and should cure a dropping speedo needle.
D8's have a 2 pin version and also have a speedo interface unit behind the glovebox.

Not too bad to replace either. Just get the front of your car as high as possible and let the exhaust cool down!
