Ok - would appreciate any info on the following problem.
This fault occured after car recently went through an MOT
Symptom - turn ignition on, airbag self check begins, warning light comes on - flashing at first then on solid for rest of journey.
After a lot of reading on this forum and others I headed straight for the orange connectors under the front seats - cleaned them, wiggled them and eventually cut them out altogether and soldered the wires together. Still no good. I then took out the centre console and checked the control unit next to the handbrake along with all the connectors I could find - including one at the steering column. Still no joy.
I got the fault codes checked today and here was the result:-
31 Pretensioner Ignited; Replace ECU
511 Airbag(s) Ignited
Looking at the pre-tensioners - there is no sign that they have fired off and the airbags themselves are normal. I think the airbag ignited alarm could be from the check through other connections that I made during faultfinding. Anyway I need to know now:-
Can I test the pretensioners with a meter to tell which one is duff? - if any and is it safe to do continuity checks on airbag system wiring to trace any cable breaks etc. I've been following precaution of disconnecting neg battery terminal, disconnecting control module plug/ allowing 20mins for capacitors in system to discharge.
Is it just a case of getting a new pretensioner and trying it in either passenger or driver's side to see which clears?
If you picked up a tensioner unit from a scrapyard how do you know its a good one?
Anybody got a wiring diagram for this system?
Any help/ideas appreciated. This light is driving me nuts!

airbag update
Had a further look at airbag system.
I am sure that the pretensioners and their wiring is ok, wires check out fine no shorts, breaks etc. On both sides resistance readings identical - from connections under seat back to module 430 ohms both sides, from connections under seat to pretensioners 2.2 ohms both sides. Nothing looks out of place. Worried now that replace ecu code could be the problem.
Do you need to have the airbag fault light reset after fixing problem?
If you get a replacement ecu from scrapyard does it need programmed to your own cars system?
By the way - the fault codes are from a Sealey diagnostic tool.
Anybody out there got information on this?
