my old 406 1.9 td had 183,000 before that died, my current 406 has only 103,000 so its still a baby, i think blue406's 406 is a 2.0 16v like mine but is over 200,000, my dad said he had a 406 1.9 td taxi at work that had 661,000, and was only killed by there being a huge split in the bulkhead which was caused by a clutch pedal which was so heavy it kept twisting the bulkhead everytime you pressed the pedal
i had a volvo 480 at work which had 483,000 miles on it, and that died as it failed the mot on exhuast emissions, as one of the exhaust valves had melted and only a week earlier it had a new gearbox fitted at a cost of £2,000

My HDi shows 105,000 on the clock but the sevice book shows it had a new instument cluster fitted at 6000 miles so it would have gone back to zero then.
My old 605 STDT had 258,000 on it before it crapped out. I think the fuel pump went and/or the turbo it was belching out bluey smoke and was a pig to start.
I think the real high miles hero's have to have owned the car from newish and have spend many an hour changing the oil lovingly and being very easy on the throttle.
I fail to see worth in getting an engine to 'do' 300,000 miles. What do they want, a medal

She had 114K on the clock when I got her. And I thought it'll do for a year or two.
Her last proper overhaul (major service at Pug stealer)was at 117K. Since then she ran and ran and ran. I've changed the oil every so often and kept the fluids up. For some reason I've not had the filter changed since its service at 117K.
Yet, she starts every time. Goes every time. Cruises at 80 on the motorway with no hassle. Goes as far as 115mph with ease (thats where I wimp out, only done it twice) and still has an ok MPG. £30 of petrol gets me a weeks commuting and weekend driving. (40 miles a day commute).
At 190K she's still quick off the mark, plenty of power when I need it for overtaking and still pretty damn quiet in cruise at 30 and 80.
Petrol engines usualy need a rebuild at 100K... this ones still factory built. Not even a gasket change.

Bluey, surely your engine cries at night time and you find spots of Oil under her in the morning? most french cars leak oil somewhere, especially at 190,000 miles.
Amazing isn't it, your cars had about £25,000.00 worth of petrol through it
And what Filter have you not changed for 73,000 miles

Will have to agree with Welton here, you've done over 70k without changing the filter?! Would strongly recommend getting this done as I have been advised by many to get this done on every annual service and ideally to get the oil changed every 6 months.
Might just extend the running time of your already impressive 190k!
Aye... its the oil filter I've not changed.
Funny thing is... I've got one sitting on a shelf (right behind me as I type this) along with a sump plug washer... ready to be changed.
I do intend to do it soon.
This is not to say the oil has been neglected. I only use Castrol GTX for high mileage cars. Its the best in the range and cheap enough too.
I check the oil weekly and make sure the level is always halfway between full and empty. The optimum I find.
And nope Welty... no drops of oil. I put some leak stop in some time ago and its done the business.
I'm well aware a regular oil change is the best thing. But I have no facilities for it which means forking out £100 each time and I'm strapped tighter than an eskimoes nad sack most of the time and just can't afford it.
