After spending 20 mins looking for the speed sensor finally found it and got on with changing it, new one was slightly too big but rubbed it down enough so it went it, clipped wiring back in place and backed off the drive, yippee it did 5mph in reverse it must be fixed, finished reversing and set off for a good run, but wait, speedo still not working. Pulled over and set off in reverse speedo working fine!!

Gauge is working as it reads speed when reversing
millage counter stuck at 128252 for past 2 weeks
MPG digital reading ------
miles to empty digital reading seems to be accurate
still has low power

Thought I might have put the wiring clip on backwards but it only fits one way, so I'm stumped. could resetting the BSI sort it, replace the transponder(?) Any advice appreciated as always.

With respect, did you get the right one for your car? There should not be the need to reduce it's diameter to get it to fit.
Sounds as though it's for a car that needs direction of rotation opposite to yours!

I should hope so as got it from euro car parts and gave them the vin number. It was identical to the old one, all I had to do was take less than a mill off just above the O-ring, was literally a wipe round with sandpaper, it would have gone in with a bit of leverage but as I only have one usable hand that was not going to happen.

Out of curiosity does the speedo usually move when in reverse? never needed to look before now..

Don't think they do.....never really been fast enough in reverse to notice though!

If its not supposed to then there's something wrong. I got it ro 20mph in reverse at work this morning.
