Help forgot oil filter

hi all i was working on my car and forgot to reinstall the oil filter i started the engine and ran it for about 4 seconds and lost quite a bit but the oil was on minimum so was still some left would this have caused much damage

Not after 4 seconds, no, 4 minutes, yes!

I've done this a few times over the years, you'll be fine....as long as you have now fitted a new filter

Well it was the old filter i put back as wasnt doing an oil change i just drained it and put it in a bag till finished, do you think i should get a new filter

If the seal is alright and the filter doesn't leak you should be alright with the old filter.
