i have a 96 1.9TD with a Bosch fuel system. The tickover is high - around 975-1000rpm - and I can't adjust it as the tickover screw is seized. The tickover used to be lower and seems to have gone up quite recently so I'm wondering whether there could be a fault with the cold/fast idle system. I've had a quick look at it but can't see how I disconnect it to see if that's the problem. Can someone advise?
Just to complicate things, I'm in Germany in the middle of a road trip so don't want to start doing anything too complicated in case the law of sod comes into effect.
Cheers all.
PS running on approx 60-40 diesel-veg oil mix. Could this be making the tickover high?

Re: high tickover
Mine was ticking over at 1100rpm when I had it, all I did was unscrew the cold start cable and give it a few good tugs and the idle dropped to 900rpm and has been fine for 12 months. Worth a try and only takes 2 minutes.

Re: high tickover
Thanks for the reply.
After a bit of fiddling I found the cold start isn't working. Unfortunately, the default position is on so if I disconnect it the idle stays high. My other is half is arriving tomorrow and bringing some small molegrips. I'm going to try and clamp the cable in the off position. Other than that, I have a small file to use on the end of the idle bolt.....

Re: high tickover
It's now doing something weird - when the car is cold it ticks over at just under 900rpm. After a few minutes it goes up to 1000rpm. So I'm guessing the cold start is off when the car starts and then decides to switch on after a few minutes.....
Re: high tickover
During my European road trip the idle seemed to have sorted itself it. It would still be high every now and again but was normally around 900rpm. When I got back to Germany after a week in Finland and Norway the tickover went back up again. I was at high altitude in Scandanavia (up to 1000 metres). Could this be something to do with it?
