I've noticed recently a loss of power in my 406 not a big big loss but it has seemed to get progressively sluggish since December
ok its only a 1.8 so for the weight of the car its never going to be the fastest but it should be able to beat a 1.3 fiesta of the mark at the lights....which it didn't do today I got him in the end but only because of the lights changing back to red (I'm not an amber chancer ...honest)
The road was slightly uphill but I remeber not long ago when I would have left him eating my dust!
Anyone have any ideas what my have caused this lose in power? Is there anything I can do to the engine to get it back to how it was?
have you got an induction kit?
if so get rid of it
i would try a service first, the full works, plugs all the filters, and some decent oil, if that doesnt do it then you may have an engine management fault, and unfortunatley the early 406's never put the k light on when you have problem, my 2.0 had a major loss of power problem when i first got it, and didnt log any faults, had me baffled for ages, it turned out to be a map sensor, but you get a huge loss in power so im sure this isnt your problem

yer unfortunately I have and I was considering getting rid of it the noise is doin my head in...do you know where I can get an original air filter box mines abit shabby?
Get it serviced and ask the garage to give it the once over to see if everything else is ok....

Especially once the car has warmed up properly.

i would do the service yourself, its hardly challenging, and in my opinion most garages overcharge by a mile for servicing

check all lights
check all suspension joints for play/wear
check condition of all tyres including spare
check brakes and flexible and solid pipes for corrosion/cracks
check all electrics function appropriately
check seat and seat belt security and conditon
check function and security of all doors
check function of a/c sytem and regass if needed (where appropriate)
check condition of wiper blade
check and adjust tyre pressures
lubricate all locks/hinges/moving parts and adjust where needed
replace pollen filter (where appropriate)
this is what i do on any car that comes in for a service including what you mentioned

depending on the mileage of your car you may also want to change the gearbox oil, and if you can afford it or want to go all out, change the PAS oil too
