am i mad... probably
ive just about had enough of working with complete idiots, work lately has become so bad, for me anyway, i keep covering up for other peoples mistakes and then i end up taking the blame for it, two good examples, on friday we had a ford escort (why i have no idea) it came for an mot and a central locking problem, one of my colleauges didnt even take the door panel off, he just said it needed a new lock and solenoid, they turned up, he fitted them and guess what, the central locking didnt work, so i ask him, did you check the circuit, and he said, ermm no, fortunatley for us someone had a haynes manual, so i checked the circuit as per the wiring diagram, to find there was no supply to the solenoid, so i rip the seats out and carpet to find the central locking loom completley rotten, i stayed at work till 7pm on friday to repair it, and for what, to find this morning my boss having a go at ME for not checking the circuit in the first place and how the customer was going mad at him for fitting a new lock and solenoid for no reason, then today the same colleague had a 940 turbo with an idle problem, he couldnt find anything wrong with it so i had a look and found quite a lot wrong and even found that the brake servo vacuum hose was crushed, so i told him what to do, and what happens, my boss wanted to see me and ask me why i had missed all the things wrong with the car especially the brake servo hose, im getting sick of this, and all for what, £6900 a year, its not worth it, so im giving it up, and im at that stage where i will loose everything, i had started doing a 6 year master tech course, spent a year in daventry at college, and spent nearly 2 years on the job, but i will now loose it all as im giving it up before the six years, i dont know what ill do for a job, but to be honest it wont be hard to find anything better

This might be a crazy suggestion but if you like mechanics have you ever thought about working on aircraft?
Similar work for a licenced engineer working on aircraft as a mechanic and the money is usually much better (once fully licenced)
There are a few apprenticeships out there or a college course its not easy but the benifits are good and so is the option of travelling and plenty of jobs about.

Assumptions are the mother of all F**k ups.

Hey James, is this other bloke the Boss' "special friend" or something? Sounds like a shyte situation.
If you're really thinking of jacking it in, it might be worth having a nice top volume argument with the idiot boss and telling a few home truths, so that everyone else knows what's going on
. Might get a bit of respect out of the tosser if you fight your corner
If that doesn't work chin the tw@!

Sounds like an episode of The Garage where Jock is having a go at them all. Even on that programme it is obvious that the Garage Boss has his 'favourites' i.e. Sandy on the show. Him and Sandy get allong nicely but the others get all the shyte work, then leave.
James it seems clear to me even on this Forum that you're a bright young lad and have a decent future ahead of you. If you are interested in working with cars AND want to earn some decent money you could look to working for a more specialist garage, maybe with links to motorsport or something?
I'll tell you a quick storey, when I had my Honda Integra I found a Garage in Daventry that set up as a brand new Honda Specialist. I went allong and the place was like a Science Lab it was incredible. Lap Tops, new benches & draws, a Dado-rail running around with compressed air/power/data lines and everywhere extremely clean, tidy and well lit.
Anyway, the two lads that set up the Business were only 22 and 23 years old and came straight off the Touring Car/Rally scene. One had been a Honda BTCC mechanic (the year 2001 Civic race car was 'his' engine that season) the other was from Mitsubishi's Rally support mechanics team.
So being a Mechanic can be very very rewarding given the right oportunity, I'm sure with self belief and confidence someone like yourself can achieve great things in your trade, the key I suppose is to break away from the 'bread and butter' stuff you get now.

theres not much chance of me working at any other garage, i cant work at pug because my dad works there, and as i have no actual qualifications (apart from 2 GCSE's
) it will be very hard to find someone willing to let me work for them, im gonna end up leaving either way, even if my boss wasnt such a w*nker im getting paid such a pathetic wage, one of my friends is about a year younger than me and just drives cars arround a car auction place all day and gets paid more than double what i do, ive just got wait till ive paid off my Snap-On bill then i can leave, i do like working on cars (to an extent), but when you meet the people i have it puts you off for life

I hate some employer's insistence that exam certificates are the be-all and end-all. I've been a senior level UNIX systems administrator since I was about 23 and I have bugger all qualifications to my name. There's a fair amount of places that want stacks of industry certifications and degrees (some even want post-grad/masters degrees!) for even lower-end jobs. Those places are ones that refuse to take a person for their experience and personal merits and they are places I'd never want to work in.
However there are still a lot of companies out there that prefer to ignore the bullsh*t on a bit of paper and will evaluate a potential employee by what comes out of his/her head and mouth at interview time. The way you speak on here shows you'd walk an interview with the Right Place. Try!

Funny you should say that about qualifications mjb.
My brother in law has worked for a plastics extrusion place since he left school 25 years ago! He knows the industry inside out and if one of the extrusion machines or die heads fails he just dives in there and knows how to sort it - old skool style.
Now, his employer said they would 'prefer' him to gain a degree whilst working there as it would suit his position better
Yet, on the other hand they employ graduates like there's no tomorrow but these numpty's have not the first idea of the concept of actually working in a Company environment but get paid handsomely from day 1

I'll do it, I have a lot of anger to vent one someone, I'm having problems with the muppetts at my work place, namely the manager of Customer Support Services and the product managing consulcuntmjb wrote:Someone needs to smack your boss repeatedly round the head with a bloody hearing horn.

So without resolving to violence with them I'm going about it in a very sneaky, sneaky way!
So I have lots of rage built up in me that needs to explode!
James, where is your garage ??

it all makes sense now, i found out why im getting the blame for all my "colleagues" mistakes, my boss is going to retire soon, of which i had no knowledge, so i have to be the one making the mistakes otherwise he will get a bad reputation and wont get the job, so im definately gonna work somewhere else now, its bad enough working with him, let alone being my boss

To be honest, all the qualifications mean squat. When I went to the interview for my current job, I don't think they even looked at them but asked what my experience was. They MAY help when getting your first job, but after you've been in an industry for a few years, it really shouldn't matter.
Now I have to nail this interview in LONDON tomorrow....

well seeing as i will have to pay, no, even if i didnt i sincerley doubt it, as i was very lazy at school, probably why i only got 3 GCSE's and i think my intelligence has gone slightly downhill since thenniz406 wrote:James....
Would you consider re-doing your GCSE's - Part time at college? or obtaining some more useful qualifications?
today was quite interesting, my colleague made 3 more major mistakes, but this time i didnt get involved and guess what i didnt get the blame
today's mistakes:
changed a £700 v70 awd prop shaft to cure a whiring noise, did it work... no
changed a £290 940 alternator as it was not charging but it was a wiring fault
went to change 760 window regulator but only realised it was the wrong one after cutting the plug off and butchering it then realising it doesnt fit

I LOVE WORK
