oil level warning

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

if you have a D8 model like i do,and that oil level indicator goes up and down few times,it means that sensor is disconected i belive.
mine do that all the time, after clutch has been relaced,i belive they forgot to plug it in.

To be fair, you would be a bit daft to completely rely on Peugeot electrics to show you important stuff..!!
I still check my oil once or twice a month, and before long journeys, just for peace of mind.

Mine shows 1/3rd full when engine is warm so I guess its okay but I want to check the stick anyway... 8)

Hi
Its a d9 (02) its a little over the max level which I will drain out a little tomorrow I think the sensor is nuggets as it shows 1 'o' even though its full and coldish. So on a 2.p hdi 110 where is the sensor and how mu h is it? Part number?

Also is it safe to drive?

1131E2 64 quid  :frown: I think I'd try checking the connection (for corrosion as well as general unconnectedness as Ares says) as well as cleaning it first...

Ooooh, it's nice and easy to get to. Not :frown: Down the back of the engine, next to the turbo:

There's an ickle gasket, 15 - 0243 01 - TEMPERATURE SWITCH GASKET 18,4X23-1,2 WITHOUT ASBESTOS - A005- about a quid:

I can't see why it wouldn't be safe to drive, as long as there is enough oil in it...

Might be different on the TE, hold on... Oh no, exactly the same place :(

Oil level sensors should only be used as a rough indication anyway, there's no substitute for physically checking it with the dipstick (put that in your BMW and smoke it :P )

This may be irrelevant - but you never know....

A few months back, I had a recurring minor fuel leak, which came and went for some weeks, (eventually cured by replacing the filter assembly, courtesy of gingermagic's donor car). Whenever I had the leakage problem, my oil level indicator gave false low readings, (so I assumed the level sensor was round the front and getting diesel dribbled on the connector). Maybe it's contamination on something else?

Anyways, mine's been fine since I sorted the fuel leak. :?
