Long time Peugeot owner (406's throughout). I test drove a coupe 2.2 HDI today and had a questions I'd appreciate some input on.
Car was very slow on take off from junctions. It needed the foot right down to get away from junctions. Got going in 3-5 gear but the low end worried me. This is my first experience of the 2.2 HDI so it is maybe just the nature of the beast? To add there is not much history on the car but it ran fairly quietly with no signs of smoke.
Maybe I'm expecting too much from a 105,000 mile car but in comparison to old 90bhp HDI's it was not on tap in my opinion.

Hi and welcome to the forum.
A 2.2 HDi shouldn't be 'flat' at the bottom end, but there are quite a number of things that can cause this kind of behaviour. Possibly the most likely one would be the swirl flaps, (which cut off air flow through half the inlet valves), not working. There are quite a few other possible causes, though.
Are you familiar with the diesel particle filter, (FAP) system and know how to spot one with a blocked dpf? This is a common problem, but easily and cheaply solved nowadays.
Did it have any warning lights on or error messages on the MFD?

I'll take look for details on the swirl flaps. Are they something that can be checked easily or is it a take the inlet out job?
On the FAP I was aware it was a problem so was thinking that may be an issue. What is the method for checking this issue? I just read your guide on knocking the filter out which seems easy for the benefits.

Hi, welcome to the forum.
I would be inclined to check the MAR sensor ( unplug it and go for a drive ) or possibly checking the electrovalves on the bulkhead. The 2.2 has 3, maybe borrow a working one and plug it in, in place of yours, one at a time with a test drive after each swap to see what happens.
This was a symptom my car had when I got it....

Should say maf sensor, bloomin' predictive text is a load of shut....

The swirl flap assembly itself is OK, it's the external actuator that fails - either the diaphragm splits in the vacuum actuator, or the plag-nasty link on the end of the operating rod snaps off. Test is easy - rev the engine to 2/2.5k, you should see the actuator extend, then retract as the engine slows
