strange ABS-Airbag-Automatic Gearbox Fault !!

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

strange ABS-Airbag-Automatic Gearbox Fault !!

Post by bl4ckclio »

Hi everyone,

useer 406 D9 2004 EW10j4 multiplex.

I have strange fault on my car.here's the story.
when I started the car (haven't moved), the MID show :
ABS Fault, but no ABS light on speedometer.
Airbag fault, the light s on.

when the car move and gear change from 1st to 2nd, the MID show Automatic Gearbox Fault with sport n snow blinking.finally the car go into limp mode, sometimes the gear stuck on third.
ignition off and on.....autobox fault clear. no with ABS n Airbag fault

try scan with PP2000 and the result :
1. ABS - no respond
2. Airbag - no fault found
3. Automatic Gearbox - intermittent fault - gearbox output engine speed signal - no signal

and the question is :
the airbag light lit but on PP2000 not showing any fault. from where I should trace the problem.
my mechanic says, Autobox problem caused by faulty ABS ECU. Airbag light no correspondence with ABS ECU.
but peugeot authorized shop says, when I replace ABS ECU with good unit, all the problem will clear (ABS, airbag, autobox)

what do you think about my problem??

ps:sorry for my bad english, I'm come from Indonesia.

best regards

It seems unlikely but both the gearbox and ABS are on the CAN data bus and maybe they have experience? What if you disconnect the ABS ecu? Not that you want to drive it like that...

Also, I know it's mad given your climate, but you might want to see this viewtopic.php?f=10&t=12118&p=107150&hil ... rs#p107150

thank you.
maybe that's because read 406oc whole topic about ABS problem :cheesy:

I haven't tried disconnect ABS ecu and drive it.
and that's link, I have seen that before and I will try to see what's the result...

thank you for your comments :D

ohhh....just wanna ask, is it true that my car installed with ABS BOSCH 5.3 ?
if yes, I googling and found that there is common problem about two aluminum wirebonds broken that supply power to the board. but they found on cars make like VW, BMW, AUDI, etc. but didn't found on peugeot 406
here is the link:

and many more......

what do you think about that?

but If broken abs relucter ring don't make PP2000 can't access the ABS ecu, right?

yeah, I want to trace about the ABS wiring. do you have ABS ECU pinout for my car?
especially for automatic box..... :cheesy:
which I need is power and earth pin number.

thank you.

Bosch ABS 5.3 Var.1 apparently, I'm not sure if this makes a difference but I don't think we've heard of any failures (anyone)

I can't actually do a pin out as such, just a wiring diagram. I can tell you what each wire is but you will have to look for the little codes on the wires until you understand the orientation (looking for the codes is probably safer anyway as they cannot be confused). I think I'm going to need your VIN (chassis number) as I don't know which gearbox you have. Could you either post it or pm it to me please? Or at least which gearbox you have if you know it and your build code.

yes, I meant a wiring diagram

as my car still on workshop...I don't remember the VIN and build code.
I will update as soon as possible after I check for sure.

thanks.

UPDATED ******

my built code is 9094

and my problem has solved.
first, about auto gearbox and ABS fault
for sure, if your ABS not respond and on wiring plug go to ABS ecu there is a current and earth, so the problem is your ABS ECU.
follow the instruction on the link I gave above, which explain how to resolder crack power wire inside EBS ecu. or you could googling with phrase "ABS BOSCH 5.3 common problem"
after I repair that, I run PP2000 and the ABS can communicate again.
autobox fault dissapear afterthat.

and for the airbag light lit constantly even don't find any fault
It means your airbag have been deactivated (usually passenger side).
so go to PP2000 menu, see about locking and unlocking airbag.

woowww..........thanks a lot for all my mate ( lozz, steve, etc) which help me.

regardssssssss,
