The car is a semi-mux D9.

The wiring diagrams say fuse 23, not that they0re always accurate, but it should be a 2 position fuse:

(So that the lighter works with or without the ignition on)

You really need to test the fuse because it's not always obvious if they're blown (especially if your eyes are as bad as mine...)

Hmm, do you have a D8 or D9? That's going to make a difference for wiring.

I'm sure you've double checked the fuse, but having fixed the exact same problem on my D8 just last month (after having already check the wrong fuse umpteen times) I'll just confirm that it's the 10A fuse that is between the two banks of fuses by the drivers right knee....

its a d8 i think so is that 23 and does it go from fuse 1 top left to right like reading or 1 to the botoom of thaT row eg

Yes, it's upside-down I've heard of this, although I've not seen it before, nor do I know if it's some cars or all of them.

Using the above and this http://www.peugeotlogic.com/fuses/fuses406/fuses9.htm it looks like the fuse position for the lighter is empty (looking at the 2nd row from the bottom, left to right, free, 5A (fuse 27), free, 20A (fuse 25), free, fag lighter (should be 20A), 10A (fuse 22), free, free, 30A (fuse 19, should be 10A), 10A (fuse 18) and the last three are reserve fuses.)

It all seems to match fairly closely anyway. Stick a fuse in 23 (a or b) and see what happens.

So row one up from bottom stick a fuse in between the 20 and the 10?

How do we know it's not just the picture that's upside down?

Why would the guy post the picture upside-down? I'd seen it mentioned before so I was kind of ready for it. Anyway, it seems to me that if he hadn't posted that picture we'd all still be floundering around in the dark.

So, not only did we get to the bottom of the upside-down fuse panel (well, not what madness a Sochaux led to it being mounted upside-down, just understanding it that way) I've also worked out how a 28-way fuse box can have 40 fuses in it (answer: it's 2 fuse boxes )

I just wondered if he held a camera phone upside down? a picture of a load of fuses looks the same either way really.

Surely they couldn't fit a fuse box any which way at the factory as it would not align with the wiring looms? it must only be able to be mounted one way?

I'm just trying to get my head round it btw, and being ill with some virus this week might not be thinking straight

I was thinking that the fuse panel turns up at the assembly line already assembled onto the wiring loom, then the loom's fed into the body and... which way up does this fuse panel go again? Well it fits in either way up so does it matter which it is?
