Changing Temp Sensor

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Changing Temp Sensor

Post by jonti007 »

My Temperature sensor has gone bananas, I can get a new one easily. Now how easy or difficult is it to change it in the wing mirror.
Any help please

Hi mate, its quite an easy job.

1) Remove the glass from the mirror by pushing mirror up and back - exposing ( just ) two tiny metal prongs which you can push apart with a thin blade. You can let the glass just hang, no need to unplug it.
2) Undo the torx screw holding the temp sensor in place - you may need to undo the other 3 and seperate the mirror casing if the sensor won't come out easily.
3) Pull as much wire out as possible before cutting the 2 black wires as close to sensor as possible.
4) Very gently remove the coloured mirror back while you can get to it - it makes it easier to refit the glass with back removed.
5) Join the new wires to the old wires and put it all back together.
6) Push glass back in place - you may need to use a tiny screwdriver to lift the hexagonal ring ( access through back of mirror ) a little bit up, to pop the glass on.
7) Put mirror backing in place.
8) Push 2 prongs back into place behind lugs.

This can be done when the mirror is still on the car - maybe practice on a scrapyard one when you remove the sensor.
