The plugs do pull out, but they're really tight the first time.Doggy wrote:Yes, they just flick out with a small screwdriver or similar. I couldn't figure out how to disconnect them, but I guess you could just cut the cables on a scrapper.

Re: New Project
I was thinking about making a similar comment but in the end I decided it might become all too obvious what sort of level my mind functions on. Still, it's been said now so we can all put it behind ourselves and move on.

Re: New Project
Alright boys and girls....drum roll......
We now have a fully functioning 406 Executive Estate....it runs like a gem
The part cost me £152 from the dealer, rotten sods gave me less than my normal discount
Having said that...they have Total 5w30 fully synthetic oil on offer at £35 plus vat for 20 litres so I bought some...super cheap that
The problem with the old fuel pressure solanoid is that the needle is seized solid inside....the new one has a needle that clicks in and out when ignition is turned on....the old one does not click!!
Car is booked in for mot friday at 2pm.
Hopefully just the keys to sort out and to give the car a good look over and an oil change....a good clean too

Our hero
Spot on with your intuition about what it was I notice.
Is the old one repairable?

Re: New Project
Was that through gritted teeth Dai? I'd be fuming if I'd left such a tidy motor dormant for so long only to find that it could actually be fixed within a week!DaiRees wrote:Absolutely brilliant news, well done John![]()

In all serious though, fair play to John for taking the plunge with it & taking the time to do it in the first place. It was a gamble & could have been so much more to do & by the same measure it could have ended up in bits if bought by the wrong person without the knowhow.
Another rare 406 saved from cannibalisation. Now I just need another of those SRi HDis to appear a bit closer to home...

Re: New Project
Doesn't look like it, but in the link that Doggy posted from the French Car Forums there is a poster who reckons they are easy to repair.....can't see how it comes apart thoughrwb wrote:
