Rear tyre wear

So the new daily I have is a 406 saloon, HDi 90.

The inner edge of the rear tyres is completely destroyed, like down to the metal and some, can't believe I missed it when I picked the car up, but it came with plenty of fuel so I guess that offsets the cost of a pair of part worns..

My first thought is the tracking is out, as it also feels a bit tail happy and "wobbly" in corners. Anyone got any other suggestions??

I've jacked it up to swap wheels and all feels solid, so no shot bushes etc..

If there's nothing loose or worn, someone has probably changed the upper links without ensuring the camber is reset correctly.

Best bet is a 4-wheel alignment, (once you're sure theter are no faulty suspension components).

Ok, so can the rears actually be tracked? My local garage insists not, and tbh I can't see how. Confused!?!

yes the rears can be tracked
theres a large bolt that turns a funny shape washer that does it
as said you need a 4 wheel aliament center costs about 50 pounds
if your local garage dosnt know this might be time to find a better garage

Heh, yeah I'll go elsewhere. I'll look myself first, it's on the inboard end of the tie rod/stabiliser thingy, right?

Yes, it's at the inboard end - the bolt has a kind of eccentric head/integral washer, as Nigel was saying.

I'll try to post a diagram later or link to an appropriate post later, unless someone beats me to it, (which is OK by me)!

By all means get your tyres there but I dout they have they right gear/skill to do thisjob

Sorry, I didn't mean I'd get them to do the tracking, just check it and confirm it's out. I get on reasonably well with the guys there anyway, so I can "supervise"
