406 LX HDI Diesel Estate Air Bag/ Pre tensioner wiring.

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

406 LX HDI Diesel Estate Air Bag/ Pre tensioner wiring.

Post by davey14 »

Hi the dreaded Air bag light has been on for sometime now an my Mot is due. Have had a diagnostics check an was told problem is under the seats.
All the wires have been cut none are joined. Passenger side i have a 652 an 653 that probably should go to the brown plug fixed to the seat, This has a Blue an Brown cable, Does anyone know which wire they should connect to?
Also Passenger side again i have 6506 an 6507 an a brown an a blue wire BLUE Plug, Again which way round should they connect.

Drivers side 650 connects to brown plug but which colour wire brown or blue?
651 Brown or blue?
6508 goes to ? Brown or Blue On Blue plug on seat
6509 goes to Brown or blue On Blue plug on seat

Any information greatly received, Or wiring diagrams
Many thanks Dave

Hi Dave :cheesy: I can post you wiring diagrams but, as you may have spotted, Pug don't use colour codes on the wires, only on connectors. The numbers *should' be marked on the wires as they head off into the seat on the other side of the connectors.

I suspect it doesn't actually matter which way around they are, but I wouldn't like to test this theory myself so I don't expect you to.

If you can't see them and nobody's got any better ideas I'll go have a squint at my wiring (I only just sat down...)

This probably won't help one little bit:
650 : Driver's pre-tensioning seat-belt + command
651 : Driver's pre-tensioning seat-belt - command
6506 : Driver's side airbag + command
6507 : Driver's side airbag - command
6508 : Passenger side airbag + command
6509 : Passenger side airbag - command

Hi Steve i will take some of the insulation off the flex under the seats to see if the Blue/ Brown wires have any numbers on. Probably tomorrow in daylight.
Cheers Dave.

Hi Dave - there is a tiny orange plug wedged down between the passenger seat and centre console, if you see a black and while coiled wire then thats the one. Check the orange connector first then follow this wire down to the back of the bank of connectors, its hard to see from the front. these are sometimes the suspects.. :supafrisk:

As always, check with ignition off, and left for 5 mins...

It might be easier to remove the seat bolts and push the seat back to get a proper look at what way the wiring is at the moment.

Hi Thank you for all your replies especially Steve. On looking at your information i took a gamble, An assumed that the brown an Blue wires coming off the seat were Brown + Blue -
Drivers side.
I soldered as follows Seat Belt Tensioner Orange wire marked up as 650 + to the Brown wire that was originally on the Brown plug. Orange wire 651- To the Blue wire originally on the brown plug.
Orange wire 6506 + To Blue plug Brown wire. Orange wire 6507 - to the remaining Blue wire.

Passenger side 652 + to Brown wire, 653 - to Blue wire. 6508 + To Brown wire, 6509 - To Blue wire.
I also soldered the earth wires together.
There are no connectors under the seats now. All joints are soldered.
On starting up the car Air bag lights came back on. So i unplugged the Airbag module under the console only because it was already out, Plugged it back in after a few seconds.
On starting up Lights out :)
Hope my thread was not to confusing, An will help others.
Many thanks Dave.
