Engine undertray/ sump guard
Howdy all,
I managed to rip off half my undertray reversing past a hedge, branches went under the car and pulled some off.
I'm finding it really difficult to find anyone breaking a D8 around here, loads of D9s though.
Can anyone tell me if the undertray off a D9 HDi will fit on to a D8 1.9td?
Saw ones going on ebay but postage outside the UK is likely to be horrific

Lots of people lost their undertrays, myself including. It's not necessary to have and I've given up looking for one....

Looks like it's a no
They're the same after 1998 but... No idea what the difference is.

Same, I know they're not vital but with the way the weather gets around here in winter I want one just in case!

I think it's one of those things that's better if it's there, but not crucial. It has to help in keeping some of the weather off the engine.

I have a different view on these trays; I think they are important to airflow both through the radiator (and down the back of the bulkhead) and underneath to stop 'buffeting' and the disruption to the previously described airflow.
And to keep the water spray down, and noise, and stray cats

i have just removed the rear halve of my d9 undertray they seen to bow down in the middle as the material they are made off seems very poor and i know for sure once the snow comes it will act like a scoop and get ripped off anyway.

One advantage of not having the tray is I don't have to take it off every time I want to do a service or simply look under the car

Hmm, tricky yes - who do you believe, Peugeot's Service Box or some guy on ebay...
Actually, checking the ad, that's after-market (it doesn't look right and the part number isn't Pug) so maybe it will fit both

Well you never mentioned you'd checked on servicebox but I suppose I should have known it had been checked before. A quick search shows that there seems to be a few people around these parts who are obsessed with the undertray

It seems to me that someone actually made that, so I'm wondering if it would be worth you marching into your local factor's and asking if they had it in any of their pattern panel books.

On the eBay one....
seems to me that you can't really lose. The item description and parts compatibility stuff says
clearly that it will fit. If it doesn't, and the seller tries to palm you off, you just raise a case with eBay.
And make sure you insist on also having your return carriage costs refunded.

I think having one of these undertrays is a really good idea.
There is so much c**p on the roads in my area, partly due to next to no road maintenance by the local council (potholes everywhere that never get fixed). About a week ago I was driving to a nearby town and I heard something that sounded like a small stone kicking up off the tarmac, immediately followed by a mad flapping noise in the engine compartment. Turned out my aux drive belt had split and there was a strip about 5mm wide that had peeled right off by the time I managed to stop the car and check it.
The belt was less than six months old, and I had replaced it myself along with the cam belt, so I was pretty p/off with seeing it in tatters. Luckily it got me home that day with no further problems, and I wisely
thought it would be ok for a little while. Lo and behold on xmas eve I was about 18 miles from home and just about to head back with the family when the mad flapping started up again. Stopped immediately and looked under the body to find that all but a few mm of the belt had sheared off.
Called the breakdown guys, they turned up forty minutes later, had a look and told me they had no replacement belts with them. (Funny that, I had always been under the impression they had some kind of universal adjustable belt thingy that would get you home. Alas 'twas not the case.) So the nice man told me he would follow me home, and if the belt failed completely during the journey he would tow me the rest of the way. Jumped in the car, fired up the engine again, then noticed the battery warning light and the 'battery charge fault' message on display. The last few millimetres of the belt had snapped. He said he didn't want to tow me 'cause it was raining and the windscreen wipers would not last the whole journey. So it was another call to a bigger breakdown company and another 45 minute wait before we managed to set off with the car loaded on the trailer.
The cost of the breakdown and call out was around £128, including the obligatory 1 yr subscription and membership with the breakdown company/auto club. The new belt has been ordered online from euro car parts at the seasonal discount price of £13.51. Have to wait until Monday before I can collect it.
So with most of my xmas travel plans cancelled, I am now convinced that an engine undertray would have saved me a lot of unnecessary bother, never mind the expense. Merry Xmas
