2001, 110 hdi saloon, 136 k miles, needed welding in two places for a recent mot, along with a recon. rear brake caliper fitted off ebay, at the back of the n/s sill, hoping to keep it as long as poss, have taken it from 81k to the present mileage in 3 and a half years.
Have had a number of 405 and 406 models, this car is the nicest -easy to drive , economical ( around 50 to the gallon, brim to brim test) and comfortable. I drive about Northumberland quite nicely, quiet engine and smooth ride. My partner has a 2003 Octavia diesel which also gets around 50 mpg, but is a noisier engine and a bouncier , more 'sporty ride', which does not suit me.
Last year I managed to get precisely 900 miles out of one tank of fuel, driving ridiculuosly carefully of course. :)

I delivered a kitchen to a chap this morning and we got chatting like you do, turns out he has always had Peugeot cars, from a 203 years ago through various 405s. The car he has now is a 2003 406 HDi saloon which he bought as an ex-demo, which has just reached 43,000 miles.....

Rattles in a Ford? Thought that only happened on French incarnations?

On 162k now and feels tighter than a drum after replacing...well, everything on it!
