My turbo has leaked oil into the engine (at least I think that's what happened), engine revved its nuts off for a few seconds and now there's blue smoke when I get the turbo spooling up (around 2k revs) which I'm guessing is a steady flow of oil into the cylinders from the turbo. My mechanic is saying I'll need a new one.
How do I find out the part number for my turbo, so I can get a replacement? I read somewhere there were 3 different turbos fitted to the XUD9 engine and I'm not sure whether they are easily interchanged.
Thanks

Re: 1.9 Turbo bit the dust
Oh yeah and another thing, can I drive the car while the turbo isn't working?
I have been told a few different things by different people and not sure what to do.

Do not drive it. Seriously. It'll most likely to run away again.

I have never worked with Turbo's, so no personal experience to add.
I have been give some horror stories about turbos runnung on engine oil, though.
I found this on ebay, when I was looking for something else. Haven't dealt with the supplier or used this product, so no recommendation.

Re: 1.9 Turbo bit the dust
dont bother with the turbo kit, it is most likely poor quality and you might have trouble torquing the turbo main shaft bearing etc.
the engine runs on the oil as its a diesel and compression ignition, it will run off the oil in the sump and you wont be able to stop it and it will destroy your engine.
Best advice replace the complete turbo with a good quality reconditioned unit, not a cheap one off ebay, get the intercooler and pipes cleaned out and it should be good as new.
