What small car?

My old man has had his Berlingo for nearly 10 years now and fancies something small he has around 4000 to spend and maybe his Berlingo in part/ex.

So far i know he's looked at some sort of Micra and a Fiesta so just wondering what any of you or your relatives/friends have that would be of use for basically doing the shopping and gallavanting about.... Cheap to tax/insure good on fuel 4/5 door and maybe even automatic like the Micra is apparently.

Any info will come in handy when i get him looking on the bay and auto trader possibly gumtree later on tonight.

I would go for a Ford Fusion 1.4 TDCi - cheap tax, 60mpg, good size boot and a nice high seating position too.

That's a good shout it needs to sit quite high... thinking of it tax isn't an issue with him he dont pay for it.

At £4,000 , the world is his oyster.

I'm told the Yaris is one of the best small cars.

When someone crunched into my previous car, the insurers gave me a Toyota Aygo for a fortnight.
Lots of fun to drive, really liked the 'growl' of the 3 -cylinder engine. The engine is made by Toyota,
and the car is built in the same factory as Peugeot 107 and Citroen C1. Basically they are all the same
car.

Yaris are garbage lol,

Best value cars on the market are the KIA and skodas imho.

Micra was good until they made the new shape

Well it has to be a Pug, so I'm guessing a well looked after Peugeot 206?
Alternatively, they could buy a nice, restored Peugeot 205 1.9 GTi....
Then you could make up excuses to borrow the car and ''go shopping'' (aka racing!)

Fiesta. My other half has one - it's great! 1.6 - goes pretty well for a 80kw donk!

Reminds me of a 205, but with airbags and decent safety credentials. And that's a good thing!

Err, I dunno, what about a Honda Shitvic? have they come down to about £4k now? anyway isn't it compulsory in the UK to have a Honda once you reach the age of 60?

... I did see him looking at a new Volvo on the tv Saturday night in the pub but he said (I'm not that f*cking old)... Made me think of someone on here.

He went to look at a Fusion yesterday then came home and started looking at Corsa's (maybe there's a hint there)

The number of them I've been stuck behind doing 40 MPH on the A96 is ridiculous. You can't get past because the road is full of blind bends, and when you do get to a straight, there's invariably loads of cars coming the other way. They keep on going at 40 when they get to a town with a 30 limit. You catch them up shortly after getting out of the town, and have to slow to 40 again.

When you DO get to pass them, it's always some little old dearie with the hands on the wheel and the head about level with the dashboard. Or it's some older gentleman with a flat cap on.

That said, my great aunt drives a Honda Insight, and she's not afraid of the loud pedal.

They're probably better off driving slow though; all their curb-twatting and lack of lane discipline would be eleventy times worse at 60/70mph

I sometimes drive like an elderly person, normally after a sh1tty day at work and I can't think straight, this is when I can understand why old people drive slowly; it's because there's a lot of information to process and the best way to cope is to slow everything down.

I would go for a Peugeot 208 or a Ford Fiesta.

Before my 406, I drove a Fiat Panda that I was extremely satisfied with, but I gather that the Fiat dealer network in the UK is absolutely atrocious.

My ex has a 2007 Panda - lovely little car. I also liked the rental Peugeot 107 we had a few years ago.

My current other half has a 2009 Swift and that's nice too. To be honest, as long as you avoid the Micra, which just looks awful and screams to the wrong that you've given up on life, I don't think you can go wrong with a new-ish small car.
