tried that and it just goe's back to bing,
Must be this o/s iliberated copy , nothing works properly even the quids are showings as $ and wont change,
But still its better than using the stupid -ipad thingie so itl do for now,lol,

I retain affectionate memories of both my 405 diesels. The first was an early white saloon; curiously enough the registration number began 'G405'. This was my second diesel, preceded only by a Ford Escort 1.8 which was so feeble that it needed second gear to climb a 10% hill, and even with no turbocharger the 405 seemed an emissary from paradise by comparison. I particularly enjoyed the six-speed heater fan (I had never known such luxury), the swivelling reading-lamp, the knob on the end of the right-hand stalk which adjusted the speed of the intermittent wipe, and the threaded tension-adjuster on the alternator belt which made it quite possible to change the belt with no tool other than a screwdriver and without going under the car. Less attractive, it must be said, was the two-piece fascia moulding (the instrument housing being separate from the main body) which creaked like an old ship as long as the car was in motion.

Some years later came a 1993 estate, L417 ???, with a scent of dog on the back seat and a bonnet-lid which seemed to have had several gallons of acid spilt on it. It cost £310 on eBay and, despite being still turbo-less, wafted me home from Taunton to Redruth (about 140 miles) with an air of effortless relaxation which I have rarely experienced in any other car. Its only drawback was that I could never make any approach to sense of the headlamps. The bulbs were new, the reflectors were in reasonable condition and there was no obvious evidence of accident damage, and yet the beams were so faint that my wife would not ride in the car after dark, while the alignment (despite hours of tinkering) overwhelmingly suggested the Cook in the old song:

With her one eye on the pot
And the t'other up the chimney.

Eventually the auxiliary-belt tensioner (I had now reached the era of the serpentine belt) fell to pieces, a plug blew out of the exhaust manifold, and I realised (as often both before and since) that I had reached the point where replacement was cheaper than repair. I sold the car for £103. A friendly and knowledgeable chap from Devon (I wonder if he is a member here?) bought it, replaced the tensioner on the spot and drove home somehow or other with the exhaust roaring like a Gatling in a tunnel. As I understood, he had some intention of putting the car back on the road, so that there is a faint chance that it still exists. I should certainly like to think so.

I was wondering if the second 405 was suffering with the Xantia's complaint of too little voltage getting to the headlamp bulbs.

It is indeed enjoyable to read well-constructed sentences, although I calculate that I am far from perfect myself. It is perhaps regrettable that the vast majority of missives that I have constructed have been addressed to various legal entities and a liking for literature written before the early part of the last century almost certainly does nothing to improve the situation (I have recently been enjoying the stench of Lovecraft).

It is said that every person has a book in them, sadly I fear that the book that is imprisoned within myself contains but five pages, the subject of which is a small dog named Spot.

I don't read books at all but I seem more comfortable writing to someone than talking to them, especially in sensitive situations.

I write a lot in my work, I put together Tenders and have to write about contractual stuff so have to make myself crystal clear. I enjoy constructing something that flows and makes sense if possible; especially now when everything we write can be misunderstood or even turned against you
