heated mirrors

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

heated mirrors

Post by davew »

i don't think the heated mirrors are working on my 2003 hdi, i read that they work only when the heated screen is on tried this but can't feel any heat, i checked the fuse and the handbook says it should be 40amp and there is a 30amp in there but that shouldn't make a difference , can they be tested in PP2000 on maybe i can test them with a multimeter ?

Hi, they work with the heated rear screen.

My drivers one clears really quick but my passenger side is not working. If yours still won't work you can remove the glass and either try to clean the connections on the back or go to a scrapyard and get another glass.

Fairly sure there was a thread a few years back about changing heater elements?

i take it that they should feel warm to touch them when they are on, i had the glass out of the passenger side when i changed the outside temp sensor and the connectors looked ok ,if they are dud i might have to bite the bullet and buy original new glass's if they are not to expensive, i hate cheap copy's they are nearly always crap.
i want to get it sorted for the winter, my last car a bmw 2004 320d didn't have heated mirrors and it was a pain.

Quickest way to check when you've popped the glass out is to see if there's continuity through the element. Disconnect the two wires and put a multimeter on the tags on the back of the glass.
The elements aren't replaceable separately, you have to change the glass. When mine are on, they clear any misting quickly but you can't perceive any heat there at all.

Hi, I checked mine this morning. When rear screen is on, neither mirror is warm to the touch until about 5 minutes. The passenger side that doesn't work is stone cold but drivers side was toastie....

Perhaps I didn't wait long enough GingerMagic!
It clears very quickly and that's when I've tried to feel for heat....but it obviously needs longer to penetrate through the glass....
