hi all ive noticed the heater plug light on the clocks doesn't come on any more when you put the key to no.2. I looked in the hand book & I think the no.24 fuse in the engine bay fusebox next to the battery is the 1 for the plugs but I opened it & it looks nothing like the handbook layout. any ideas plz as when the cold weather comes then I guess they will be needed
I noticed this on my car recently also, (2003 HDI 90) It came on for a brief second when i first bought the car but has stopped coming on recently, Like the OP it hasnt caused a problem yet with the warmer weather but suspect it might later on. Have a set of bosch plugs ready to go in but would rather suss this out first.
HDi's start fine without glow plugs. The light bears no relation to whether the plugs are energised or not, it means 'don't turn the starter until I go out'.
In reality, the plugs stay on for some seconds after the engine starts to help acheive even idling quickly.
Most of just complelely ignore it

+1 Doggy, unless we reach temperatures of -15 or something, then glowplugs are not required. I believe on the majority of cars the plugs stay on for around 10 seconds after the light goes out to aid warming up.
If it bothers you the glowplug feed is a green and black box under the throttle housing should you want to change it but there really is no need.

I survived with no glow plugs several cold winters but if it's been a chilly night below about -5c then the car took a few turns to start up and even then it spluttered for a few seconds after starting. I replaced the relay (mine was visibly burnt out) this summer so we'll see what it's like in a few months time.
