What small car?

+1 for the new shape, (pre facelift at £4k) fiesta. I wouldn't normally touch fords as they are so common, but I had one as a hire car and it was fab! tons of space with great handling in a small package with a quality car feel.

Just looking at anything small ish on ebay within 75 miles but the problem is i keep looking at things like Fiesta's (small and practical for dad) but then this 136bhp 407 pops up and I'm thinking... That looks like fun... Well dad is getting on and if anyone's going on his insurance it's me.
Not come across any small pugs yet but what are the small hdi's like?

If my mum's C4 VTR+ is anything to go by - avoid. It had not end of problems with its 1.6L HDI engine - oil leaks everywhere, pollution faults. These newer ones, you HAVE to drive them properly and not a couple of miles down to the shop and back. So unless he does long trips, petrols are the way forward.

Re: What small car?
Well he's off on his old man Sunday drive to a few garages today first stop is to look at a 07 plate 1.4 petrol 207.
That's the second 207 he's looked at this weekend i think he's really taken by them although the one he drove yesterday had a high clutch bite that worried him... My reply to that was "never drove my car have you?"
I think he's fell in love with them but i can never tell with him
Anyone got any experience with these?
Here's the one he looked at yesterday.

Re: What small car?
I think a 207 Petrol would be a good solid choice. Won't pull the skin off a rice pudding but there's no expensive parts to replace (I can't imagine a clutch change being more than £250 at a good indy) and they are pretty reliable and economical.
I learnt to drive in a 207 1.4HDi and quite liked it!
